i don't know if you guys ever looked behind the glove box, but theres this big black plastic thing with a couple of wires running into it and alot of srews. and theres also a round black thing with wires running into it. what is it and what does it do? i wanted to trouble shoot like i usally do and disconnect the wires then start the car, just to see if anything stoped working or responding. but i feared if i disconnected it and started the car it would damage something, that usally happens when you trouble shoot like that.
and in the front of the car under the hood between the horn. there's a round silver device with two wires going to it. what is it and what does it do.

The round silver device? You mean the "horns!"? Nevermind. I know you're not stupid. Just me acting stupid.
I think that it could possibly be ground wires for each of the horns. Correct me if I'm wrong here people! When I hooked up my air horns (ages ago) I had to mess with all of that stuff, but I don't remember a lot about it because it was like 2 or 3 years ago. I'll take a look sometime and see what I find.
Sarah is right about that "black thing". It is the blower motor (well, at least some of it that you are able to see).

it might be the blower and the air ducks. because
sometimes i hear a ticking noise coming from under the glove box when i have the heat on and its set to about 2 or 3. it only goes away when i turn it up all the way and wait for about 10 sec. but lately its been happening more and more. should i be worrying about this?
The ticking..No (and this is how I knew it was the blower motor
) mine has been ticking for the last 3 years...it happens if I had the heater on the day before & I turn on my car (the fans dont even have to be on yet) and it happens in the summer when I use the A/C. One time a mechanic told me that when I hear the ticking if I put my hand on the black box & I feel the ticking then the motor is going bad....if that is the case mine has been going bad for a very long time..and it still works good.

Re: cool thanks i'll check it next time it ticks
Hmm...I guess then don't mess with it. Because if it does get messed up, no one will know how to fix it, since we don't even know the purpose of it. (the solver thingy)
Yeah, I'm also into computers pretty heavily. I tried using this trial and error technique (that works so well on a PC!) when I was running some amp wires through the firewall. Unfortunately I went through the firewall and through a return line for the gas tank
No CRTL+ALT+DEL when it comes to the car...

Wild guess
Some Maximas come with sonar suspension. Those cars had some kind of a suspension selector switch/display where the stock coinholder is under the ashtray. If your car was converted to a regular suspension, it's possible what you're looking at are the remains of the sonar suspension components that were left behind.

what the hell is sonar suspention.
and why would someone take it out. that sounds kinda high tech. i'll keep it in there even if its crap just because of the name. it sounds so cool. listen "sonar suspention" sounds like some kinda new military technology.
It's cool but
It's also expensive to repair/replace That's why people who have TEMS on their Toyota Supras convert them over to regular suspension, STILLEN came up with a HICAS eliminator on the 300ZX much for the same reason.
Re: It's cool but
so you know...HICAS is "4 wheel steering" on the 300ZX
the sonar suspension electronically adjusts the suspension by the touch of a button. It's in my SE manual and talks about it, but mine doesn't have it. Nor does it have digital anything (speedo, climate, etc) The only thing digital is the clock, which doesn't work. HA HA
