WHY?? Do you realize how much money that would be? The only place you're going to get it is at a dealership, and if it didn't come with your car forget it. They are pointless on a 3rd gen, anyway... they weren't built for it.

 

Please know what you're talking about before you talk. in 92 airbags were an option, and they were standard from 93-on. they WERE built for an airbag, but didn't have them installed until 92.

Nevertheless, a swap is uneconomical. you COULD install an airbag in it, but it would be a huge amount of hassle. there's a sensor on the front bumper, stuff inside the gauge cluster, wiring in the steering column, the steering wheel itself has to be replaced with one with an airbag, the airbag computer under the dash, and it has to be interfaced into the ECU if I remember correctly. This would NOT be an easy job. The cost would be well over $2000. The steering wheel with the bag it over $1000, then you have to do the rest of the install which will require you to basically rip your car apart and rebuild it....

The Cliff's Notes version: It's just not practical. it would be less work to buy another identical car with an airbag and move your mods over.

 

That is basically what I was saying (minus the unnecessary attitude, of course ) I know you're on a roll and all, Matt, but no need to flame me for it . I was just trying to figure out exactly why he wanted an airbag, and if he didn't have one in the first place then no, his car wasn't built for it (at least not the steering wheel, ECU, wiring, and all of that) which is exactly what I was talking about. I had no idea that it would cost $2000 but that's certainly believable considering the amount of work. Wouldn't you need sensors in the bumper and all of that??

$2500 for a good front and back dump kit. If you wanna pancake and all of that expect to spend another $1K+

 

$2500-3500...whose trying to get ripped of?? two of the top distributors Autoecentrix and USDS have kits for $1500(manual valve) and $1800 for the nice electronic valves anyone who pays more than $2k is getiing screwed royally!

 

That price is including installation, and that is what every shop in my area charges for it installed. That is all I have to go by...

 

True, every area is dfferent, I've seen some as low as $6-800 in my area though!

 

$1200 savings would be worth the drive to DC for sure!!
