ECU question

is there a certain point after modding your engine up that eventually you'll have to change your ECU, or can you use the same one, i odnt mean as far as using nitrous or turbo, but just all the other things. i was wondering because after i save up enough i was looking into buying one.

Re: ECU question

I replaced mine with a JWT because gives you some more horsepower. The only time I have heard that you should have your ECU changed or upgraded is with nitrous.

Most nitrous kits cannot be used with an aftermarket ECU because it changes your ignition timing. If you have an aftermarket ECU, and are running nitrous, I believe you need a special chip to turn the upgrade off when the nitrous is armed. The only time I have heard that you should NOT have your ECU changed or upgraded is with nitrous.

That makes more sense. I knew someone would correct me. Thanks for teaching us both something.

ECU is located under the radio in the center console you can access it through the side kick panels.

and like Nismo said an upgraded ECU isn't suggested for nitrous or boost use because it advances timing and under heavy boost or other means of FI that can lead to detonation.....the JWT ECU w/ nitorous add-on($450 extra) does the oppposite and retards timing and remaps fuel when nitrous is in use and goes back to normal when not in use.
