Active Speaker Amp ?

Okay first off yes I searched, in fact i search all the time and usually have no reason to post something

I have a '91 Maxima GXE with the "active speaker" (non-bose) speakers.

I've already changed my headunit with a Pioneer DEH-P3300 and did that myself (took old one out and put in wiring harnesses)

now when i bought the deck the installer at the shop told me to make sure i take out the stock amp that powers the rear speakers
stupid me just installed the headunit speakers sounded great for a few days then eventually both rear speakers blew within a week

now i want to replace the rear speakers, but i need to know how do i take out the amp back there and wire the new speakers ???

(yes there is actually an amp back there its shaped like a hockey puck and mouted to the rear deck, i didn't believe it at first from reading posts on the board, but its there only like a 5 watt amp)

I don't want to put new speakers back there and have them go again so any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

to take out the old amp, just unscrew it. You will have to rewire your speakers though. Here is a link to Craig Braces page:

Jumpers

What I did was to make four jumper wires and terminated the wires with the appropriate contacts (if you look hard at Pep Boys, you should find electrical contacts that slide into the factory slot).

I unplugged the amp and inserted 4 jumpers. I did this over 2 years ago and it works fine. If I want to sell the car, I simply re-install the stock speakers and plug the stock amp back in.

Butt connectors are just that Butt connectors. Take a look at your local auto parts store and they will show you what they are. You use it to splice two ends of wires together.

You need a crimping tool if you use butt connectors unless you use the epensive ones (cant remember the name but they are reusable because the screw instead of crimp)

Check the simple things first:

Are both connectors on your speaker terminals?
Did you wire the correct wires from your head unit?
Did you "forget" to wire the left speaker wires?
Check with an ohmeter (multimeter set to read resistance) that you can see your speakers from the head unit terminals. By "see" I mean make sure you see about 3.5 - 4 ohms. For reference, check your left speaker, since that works to get a baseline...

There is no fuse for your speakers or your audio signals, so it can't be a fuse. Take a deep breath, then attack the problem methodically. It's always something simple when you have problems with speakers not playing.

Alright thanks for the help guys, I just installed my new infinity 6.5 inch speakers in the rear deck

however the wire colours that were supplied to me from craig's site wern't the ones that i used

i pulled my head unit and figured out which wires i used for the left and right rear positive and negaative (4 wires) then found those same colours in the connector from the amp. cut those wires, then looked at which wires came from the speakers, found those same wires in the same connector from the amp, cut those from it, then attached them together and then it worked !!!!!!

kinda sound confusing butt thats how i did it and it works, if you need help PM or e-mail me or something and i will be glad to help out

and craig if you want those colours i used for your site let me know i can get that for you

thanks guys
