What purpose do cv joints serve?

cv joints

My cv joints need fixing and I just wanted to know if that would something to do with the car feeling bumpy when I start applying the brake, does that have something to do with it?

I dont

think that the cv joints have anything to do with a bumpy feeling and the brakes....when your brakes are bumping, it usually means that your rotors are warped, meaning you need new pads & resurface your rotors.
