I need purchase advice
I need purchase advice
I currently have a 92 SE with 131,000 miles. The only problems I have is a gas smell in the car that my mechanic can't figure out unless it smells when he's in it. Also, in the past 4 months the car has shut off while I was driving it about 3 times. Since it's an automatic, I have to coast it to a stop and restart it. I've had the car about 9 months.
Now, my great-uncle just died, and he left behind a 94 GXE with 60,000 miles on it. He had it for four years and it ran fine, even though it is a salvage. My mechanic checked it out and said it's a good car. He also said mine is a good car.
I think I can get about $3,000 for my car, and my uncle's car is being sold to me for $4,000. Should I take it, or just stick with what I have? Help. Quick.

Re: Re: I need purchase advice
I'm not familiar with the VG and VE, but I can guess that one is the 24 valve DOHC and one is not. Of course I would prefer the more powerful one, but a bigger issue for me is which car will last me 2 or 3 inexpensive years of driving.
If you want reliability and the timing belt was just changed in the 94 then go for it. If you want to keep the speed, pay a little to fix the fuel problem, and the timing belt needs to be changed in the 94, then stick with your car. I would take an SE any day over an un-modded GXE regardless of the engine.
