I read an earlier post about the smell of gas and whatnot. But anyway my 91 se has the same smell but no antifreeze but when i turn on the heat i get the same type of smell. I got into an accident in october and had to replace the radiator and the fans. For a while it smelt like anto freeze. I thought mabey it was still on the engine from when i crashed but it has gone away. also i need to get the front exhaust pipes fixed because it makes this sound like air escaping and back fire almost when i press the gas alittle and let it go back to idle. Is this a common problem because i remember test driving another max before i bought mine and it made the same noise.

From what I have heard

the gas smell can be attributed to cracked/broken fuel lines in the engine bay allowing the vapors to enter the heat ducts. check all the lines for wear/cracks.
