Rust Sucks!
Rust Sucks!
well, the rust on my max came back again. its the only spot on my car where there is any rust and its bad. its in the rear door sills. so i grinded out all the rust and found that it went all the way through in a small spot. i put rust treatment on filled it and smoothed the area with body filler and painted. the guy at the body shop said thats what they would have done. this has got me kinda worried now. i would like to do more to this car and hang on to it, but this rust thing got me worried. the guy at the body shop liked the car alot, but he kinda questioned me when i said i was gonna be doing more to the car. what do you guys think. is this just gonna be a complete waste? are any of you having rust problems?
I got a 94 SE with rust in the same spot on both rear doors. Right to where the sill meets the door frame in the rear. I feel your pain. The best bet is to sand blast the area bare, then treat with Por-15(if there is any good metal left) and then repaint. I need to do the same for my car but unfortunately the tranny bearings and synchros come first. Good luck man.
there is a factory recall for this problem. i recently repainted and i am taking it in to get it fixed so the rust doesn't reappaer.
i think it has to do with the fuel filter...

Been there.....done that......But unfortunately it doesn't cover the rust on the rear door sills. It only covers if you have rust inside the fuel door.

yeah, ive noticed it on just about every third gen ive seen. its like the only spot on the car where it rusts. i finaly started repainting mine today, i had it perfect. i starrted masking off over it to repaint the gray bottom part and the masking tape stuck on the paint that wasnt fully dry and now its all screwed up.
looks like i get to waste another day painting.
