Auto tranny , clcking noise & no park?
Auto tranny , clcking noise & no park?
I just got done searching, and didn't find anything. I have a automatic tranny but I have to use the E-brake because the parking brake in the tranny does not work. And when it started doing this a real distinct clicking noise is heard from the tranny when in drive.I'm not driving it because it sounds like something is getting ground up inside the tranny. But when I first drove it, it would hit every gear perfectly. So is there a seperate locking mechanism for (park)or a spring that could have broke. I realy would apreciat any info, thanks.

one or both of these may be bad...I will try and find the part # for the bushings but try a search on bushing and see if you can find it because I got the part # off of here when I got mine.
On both of my cars the one under the heat shield was totally gone.
that would be the first thing I check.
Re: Re: Auto tranny , clcking noise & no park?
OK I only found one of my packages and not sure which one it is but I think its the big one that is under the heat shield.
it is part # 34552-D4000...I did a search on that part # and found the other one which is 34407-01E00 from this thread.
Good luck.
btw the bushings are not expensive from the Nissan place they are only like a couple bucks apiece.

Bushings unlikely in this case...
It's true that those bushes do perish and cause selection problems, but this sounds like the parking pawl may be broken. This is a metal lever inside the transmission itself that engages a cog when P is selected and prevents the transmission from turning. If this thing has broken off inside the transmission then that has to be a bad thing.
I'd recommend (as with 90% of auto tranny problems) a professional diagnosis. A strip down and replacement will be very expensive, but not as expensive as a new transmission.

Thanks for the info, i checked and my bushings are fine. but when i pulled the cable off the sellecter, and moved the sellecter by hand it still would not go into park.So ive preaty much narrowed it down to being the tranny. But what part, and how hard would it be to fix, thanks for the info. And i can hear that clicking noise come from the tranny when i turn the tires.
thanks for the info guys, I pulled the end cap off the tranny(the cap that the rev senser is attached too)any way im poor, so i couldn't take it to a shop. But the little spring that swings the pall away from the geers was broken.so I replaced it with one I got from a locale tranny shop. They said it wasn't good to go and disect my tranny the way I did, but i got it fixed in less than a 3 hours,so I guese im lucky. And again thanks for the info.
