You have the SOHC VG30E in the GXE trim line. Nissan has never produced any car that came in an XLE trim. The '95 model year saw the introduction of a GLE but never an XLE.

The VG30E engine is the workhouse of the Nissan fleet and is still in production. All of the 3rdGen (89-94) Maximas in GXE trim had the VG30E as did the 89-91 SE. In '92 Nissan introduced the VE30DE. It is a DOHC engine and available only in SE trim from 92-94. 95 saw the introduction of the legendary and highly acclaimed VQ30DE powerplant. This became the only engine available for Maximas until the 2002 model year.

The VG30E produces 160 hp and 182 lbs/ft of torque. The VE30DE prodcues 190 hp and 190 lbs/ft of torque. The VQ30DE prodcues 190 hp and 205 lbs/ft of torque. From the 2k to the 2k1 model year, it produced 222 hp and 217 lbs/ft of torque. All of these powerplants displaced 3.0 liters.

Starting in the '02 model year, Nissan endowed the Maxima with the VQ35DE engine. Producing 255 hp and 246 lbs/ft of torque, this 3.5 liter engine gave the Maxima new credibility and respect.
A good resource for Nissan engine and model information is http://www.freshalloy.com/cars/nissa...n_engines.html. Enjoy your Maxima and welcome to the board.

One more thing. Under no circumstances should you ask about how to "turbocharge my Maxima." Best case scenario will be a million smartaszes telling you to search. Worst case is you get flamed out of existence.

I went to http://www.freshalloy.com/cars/niss...an_engines.html and it said in refernece to the VE engine, "A lame duck engine, at least in the States. Used only for three years in the Maxima SE. Variable intake runners and (problematic) variable timing control."
