That's definitely not a Max engine, that car looks to be pretty new and we all know that the Maxima hasn't had a 4 cylinder for a long time.

I believe it was an 83 Maxima I drove with an inline 6. Not much low end, but I was real surprised at how hard it pulled over 4K! Not too shabby. Real comfy car too.

the maxima/810 NEVER had a 4 cylinder.

76-83 max/810's were rwd, so that counts out that theory.

anyone following here?

L24

1st gen Maximas had the 240Z engine (L24E), but with electronic fuel injection. It made 120 HP, so it was tuned very conservatively, but a smooth engine.

The best sleeper car that I can think of would be a 1st gen Maxima. What I would do is to swap the 1983 280ZX turbo motor (L28ET)and 5-speed transmission in place of the stock motor. The L28ET made 180 HP stock. Combined with the fact that the 1st gen is RWD, just tune the suspension with a good set of tires/rims and you're set (this car even has 4-wheel discs stock).

BTW, the 510 had the L16 engine (4-cyl).

The only 4 cylinder maxima was the BlueBird Maxima 85-87 Model Held the vg20et. Wasnt sold in the U.S. only overseas in Japan. And it basically looked like a 2nd gen. vg30e with a turbo but smaller, never like that.

For your information, the "baby VG" (VG20ET) was a V6 just line the VG30.

Nissan made many variations of the VG20-series engine. VG20E, VG20ET, VG20DE (190 HP) and VG20DET (210 HP).

The high-performance versions (VG20DE and VG20DET) went into the late 80s JDM 300ZX (Fairlady Z) and the JDM Infinti M Coupe (a.k.a Leopard).
