Hesistation before cranking

When I turn the key to start the car, there is a slight hesistation before the starter engages, a pause you could say. The alternator is less than a year old and the battery is 2 months old. I have yet to check that the battery is holding its charge which I will do this weekend.

I suspect either the solenoid on the starter or an ignition coil. Has anybody experienced this?

Brent.

An inexpensive thing to try would be cleaning all the connections. on the batt, on the stater solenoid, and any grounds (especially the one going to the starter or solenoid.

My max starts in less than half a second.

If there is any oxidation on the connections (which there will be if you have never cleaned any of the grounds) this can lead to decreased performance. Many of the grounds are hidden, so its an on going challenge to find them all.

My car did the same thing. The problem worsened to the point where I was underneath the car banging on the starter solenoid. That only lasted a couple weeeks, and then I ended up spending the cash for a new starter. Also make sure the tension on the alternator belt is really tight.

Problem solved. Have discovered that the car alarm has been discharging the battery overnight, hence the hard starting. Just have to find the electrical fault now.

Thanks for everybodies thoughts.
