Converting from Auto to Manual?

I have some questions for any of you experianced maxima mechanics out there. I have a 91 SE and want to change it from an automatic to a 5 speed manual. Is this a totaly outragous idea or can it actually be succesfully obtained? I called around and finally did find a place in Ky that has all the shift linkage and clutch and all the other parts I will need, I live in St.Louis. The thing that made me stop and think I was about to atempt some crazy idea was when I called another salvage yard on the phone and the guy said I was going to have to buy a big bottle of asprin for the huge headache id have. He said switching over from an automatic to a manual is like trying to put rockits on a horse and carage.

If any of you guys out there have any suggestions or can give me an Idea of what kind of task im looking at here it would be apreciated. I alread have the engine and trany pulled and taken apart because my car has 190k on it, and it needs an overhaul.

Also If you would have any suggestions on where I can get a good engine rebuild kit, something that could handle a stage2 supercharger or maybe iv got the wrong Idea there too. I just want to do some mods to it cause i got the thing on a engine stand already and am ready to operate.

I have found a place in Ky to get all the parts I need and am going to take them. A friend of mine is a mechanic and is going to help me install the trany. As far as fixing up my engine should I get just the OEM Crankshaft and get some forged pistons and rods or should I get aftermarket crankshaft. What kind of rebuild kit would you guys suggest for my engine if im planing on putting stage 2 supercharger?
Do you guys have any suggestions for good websights to purchase engine rebuild kits?

ummmmm, you're planning on installing a WHAT?! and you're asking us about if you need new crank/pistons..

you need to do a LOT of research before you even start to think about that project.

tranny swap can and has been done. it's not that bad.
just bolt the tranny up, get the new axles in there, then work on installing the hydraulics. the clutch pedal is the only non-bolt-on part of the whole mess.

who...

Who do you guys know that has done this? That is the only thing about my max that I don't like. Since my trans is starting to act up anyway, I figured that I might look into replacing it with a manual.

Try doing a search it has been done before. Basically get everything you can from the parts car including 5spd tranny/motor mounts.

Want an engine rebuild kit, get one for a 92 300zx twin turbo or VG30DETT. All you need is factory oversize pistons, rings and connecting rods, and/or a VG30DETT crankshaft if money will allow. Then buy a VG30ET turbo exhaust manifold and go from there. Further searching will answer more of your questions.

So your saying I will have to bore out the engine that is in my 91 to be able to fit these parts for the vg30dett into it? Or is it already the same size? Because I do plan on puting on turbo later..

4th gen auto to manual... should be similar, so it can give you an idea what is involved.
