Has your 3rd Gen been on the Autoban?

Well has it? I moved to germany last october and I've been representing for us over here in the land of sausage.

Just as a little report, my 3rd gen is a 1992 GXE with 112000 miles and quickly rising on it. The car is preforming pretty well along side of an endless cycles of BMW's and mercedes. I get around 24 mpg at 92mph/3000rpm, cruise control on. (btw... apparently our cruise control tops out at 3000 rpms and will automatically disengage after that. The max is giving a great ride, with no vibration whatsoever.

Doe anyone have suggestions for me that i could tweak out my max to get better mileage and preformance for highspeed travel such as i mentioned? I'm looking into air intakes, but i have very mixed emotion from the various info i've read around the site.

So... has your max seen the beautiful autoban? Didn't think so

jim

No I havent been on the autobahn though I do think it would be cool to be cruising at like 130 mph and have some porsch passing you like your standing still lol.

OMFG! I've had THAT happen to me when I was over there. Of course, I "only" had a '90 MR2 supercharged. And suddenly, a family of 4 in a 5 series BMW sucks the doors off of me, with me doing a good 125 or so!

One question though, fenix.... I was under the impression that cruise control didn't engage after about 75 or so. Pleeze correct me anyone if I'm wrong.

After all, knowledge is power!

Yeah, i forgot to mention that. I've peaked out a bit over an inch past the 125mph mark on the spedometer, i'm guessing 130-135 mph range.

Its crazy how fast i'm going, then I look in my rear view mirror to see a lamborghini or lotus behind me flashing its lights for me to get out of the way. I swear they are going 180mph+ sometimes.

Its always depressing to have my car at 135mph and peaked, then a BMW station wagon with a car seat in the back blow by me.

CRUISE CONTROL: I know in my Maxima... the lowest it goes is 30mph. I peak cruise control at 92mph, at 3000rpm as mentioned. I have done no upgrades to the engine or computers at all. I'm not sure if it peaks at 92mph, or if the 3000 rpm's that triggers it, but that IS what it does. If you continue to push the but very very rapidly trying to get it to go on above the peak i mentioned () the light will start flashing for a while and you have to turn off cruise itself to get it to engage again.

yeah, cruise goes from 30 as the low
I've heard something like 94 on some other GXEs
it was something in the mid 90s on my VE
the cruise is limited by speed (it has an input from the speed sensor that maintains a contast speed)

for normal driving though, the 3rd gen doesn't have any limiter

as for your stillen intake question, go to maxima.cardomain.com and look through the pages there for tons of pics

Re: Has your 3rd Gen been on the Autoban?

Yes sir, it has!

Beeing a german maxima driver (1993 built) I have this pleasure every couple of days or so. Unfortunately, traffic jams or slow cars on the take-over-lane sometimes limit the amount of fun.

My top speed until now is a decent 148 miles an hour, which can be quite interesting when a VW Golf with about 85 mph decides to change driving lanes

My cruise control won't go more than 106 mph, which is annoying when you're driving on a no speed limit autobahn.
Which, btw, is nowadays quite hard to find even in germany, at least where I live.

Question 1: I didn't check out all forums mentioning the term cruise control by now, so is there a way to change the limit for my CC?

Question 2: My buddy drives a Honda Prelude (don't know if it's named that way in the US), which has also got CC. By pressing the acceleration button his car much more rapidly responds to it.
I don't mean that his car goes faster than mine (It doesn't ), but
could it be that it simply has a better response to the throttle cable? Any help on this?

Thanks, guys! (and gals)

The cruise...In the owners manual, it says Cruise works between 45 and 90 mph.
SpiralStairs, does your friend have automatic? I'm on 5sp and I know the car won't downshift (haha!)

With that kind of milage, you should replace your oxygen sensor. That will make a BIG difference in your fuel economy (10-15%). It will pay for itself in fuel savings within a year. and the new one should last around 3 years.

My car has never been on the autobahn but I have. Nothing like pushing a new VW Passat to about 250 KPH (about 128 MPH) Sure made those trips from Keil to Hamburg quick.

Hmmm I did a search and found this thread. I just wanted to say that I have had my '90 GXE set on cruise going over 100 mph. The cruise won't engage past 75 mph, so what you do is set it at 75 and then increase the speed using the accel button on the steering wheel.

Hope this helps,
kevin

Hey, how are those pics coming? It would be so sweet if you can take a few pics of you getting passed by a Porsche. Everyone in the US is drooling over the experience of the autoban. Share with us!!
