For about a month I've been unable to drive my 5-speed 93SE maxima because the power would be choppy under about 3k rpms. We had the car checked out for almost a week (changed fuel filter, checked ignition coils etc.) and they could not fix it. I finally figured out that the alternator was cooked, so they replaced that. Now the car will run, but the power, especially in the lower gears, is very choppy. If I floor it in second, there is usually no response, but if I just gently push the gas down, it will accelerate. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

 

Check your air filter and possibly your O2 sensor.
