fuba antenna in stock spot?

in all the talk about the IS300 style antennas, no one has said anything about mounting them over the hole where the stock one was. is the difference in reception that big? i live on the coast of va. no mountains but still plenty of trees. but i think it would look good on the side of the trunk. has anyone tried it. i would really like to know 'cause i might try it.

it's only a small hole...

yes you could mount it where the stock one is but i don't think it would look all that good. The celica guys are infamous for placing S2000 antennas in the stock location. I think it looks like crap

i dont think it would be noticable on my black '92 se. on others it might look horrible. maybe ill photoshop it to be sure. i think it sticks out too much up top and i don't want to go to the trouble with the install up top, or shaving the stock hole either for that matter.

i case anyone is interested, i went ahead and put the VW/Audi antenna on useing the hole from the stock power antenna. i think it looks pretty good. its almost invisible (blk on blk) and the reception is fine. but we'll see how it is when i take a road trip and get out in the middle of nowhere.

How hard is it to wire the antenna up into the roof? I would consider doing it myself, depending on how hard it is. Also, I would have the old hole- what is the easiest way to cover up the old one- will touch-up paint do the trick?

You would have to have a piece of metal welded on the back side or have a pice of steel spot welded in then sanded down flush and repainted...probably about $100 worth of work or so

yeah, like he said, you have to cover the hole from the inside and then fill it and sand down, repaint... i didnt want to deal with it and install the other on the roof. but seriously, i don't think it looks bad on the back. its been a few days since i put it on and ive already got good comments. but i would paint it the same as your car if its anything other than black. it blends in and is only noticible from the side. ok im going to get a little artsy on ya, the angle of the antenna even matches that of the windshield so aesthetically it works. (the things you notice when you go to artschool )
