Clutch pedal went straight to the floor! Doh!

It's one of three things all of which need to be looked at:
1) Clutch Master Cylinder
2) Clutch Slave Cylinder
3) Clutch Hydrulic Line
Typically whatever is broken will be leaking fluid from it. Make sure you look INSIDE the car for hydrulic fluid from the clutch master cylinder. When checking the slave cylinder make sure you push around the boot and you should be able to tell if fluid is passing by there.

There appears to be a good amount of fluid dripping from a boot on what seems to be the slave cylinder? It is the mechanism that attaches to the transmission case. On the boot itself, it looks as if there should be some sort of clip to keep the boot snug, but there is nothing there and the fluid flows freely (I put more fluid in the reservoir and it gushes out at that point alone).
Do you think a clip would solve this problem? Sorry for the ignorance, but both my Chilton's and owners manual are painfully inadequate about this problem. Thanks.

The boot isn't supposed to seal on the rod - it's just to keep dirt out of the slave cylinder. If you're squirting fluid out of the slave, the seal is shot. You can get a new slave from partsbin for about $34. http://catalog.thepartsbin.com/ I bought a rebuild kit from them some time ago for about $5, but they don't show that in stock currently. Good luck.

Bought a slave cylinder from Napa for $33.50. Worked like a charm. Thanks to all who tried to help.
