FS: VQ35 with 22k complete for swap

I received a partial payment today, so the motor is sold. Thanks to all who expressed interest and for the compliments.

My project motor is officially for sale. I can't believe I am selling this, as I am 99% ready to drop it in the car. I've decided to keep my DD with the VQ30 and fund my race car project.

Here is what you get:

VQ35 out of a 2002 Maxima that I personally leak-down tested
Gasket matched and interally polished LIM
Gasket matched and mostly internally polished SSIM
Custom VIAS block off plate
Custom CVVT block off plates
Custom throttle body bracket coverting from DBW to cable
Stephen Max cam adapters
Injector harnesses (the rear is brand new and still in the packaging)
New 350Z thermostat
All new gaskets, o-rings, and seals you need to assemble for the 4th Gen. swap.

What you will need to complete the swap:
Inner and Outer timing cases
Primary and secondary timing chains and gears
Primary tensioner and guides
Water pump

Here is how I see the finances:
Good low mileage VQ35 = $750 - $1,000
Stephen Max cam adapters = $125
Gaskets, seals, o-rings, thermostat, etc. I have purchased from DaveB = $250

I think asking $1,300 is more than a good deal. That essentially means that I am donating all my time and materials to do the porting, polishing, SSIM, and make the custom parts.

I will build a custom crate to ship the motor, but the cost of shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Local pickup is also available. If you follow the VQ35 swaps in the all-motor forum, you know it is worth the investment and you will end up spending more in the end to get your project to my current state.

Now for the pics...

hey i'm considering a swap (your engine specifically) but i won't be sure for a minute. i assume from checking out your cardomain site and quality custom pieces you have considerable mechanical experience. correct?

also, if you want to help talk me into it check out this thread:

BlackonBlack98,
I wouldn't say I have considerable mechanical experience, I would say I have a passion for cars and have done a few bottom up project cars in my life. One thing I do is investigate my intentions fully. I read, read, read, and read some more until I think I have it. I try to plan very well for things so there are no surprises. I didn't attempt the 00VI swap until I had spent at least 20 hours learning from everyone else here. The result was, I avoided all of the headaches associated with that swap. Thanks for the compliment though.

I could use that... so cheap...

Nice clean looking engine. And to justify it for other people... port+polish+gasket matching would run you at least $400 in addition to the $1300, DO IT!

Hella nice looking engine. So let me ask you this:

If i were to swap this in my DE-K 5th gen. I would use my VQ30 timing assembly right?

Also to make the throttle work, i'd have to get a Stephen Max Pathfinder TB right?

Just curious is all. This is a legit deal!

You would use the DEK timing equipment, but if you wanted to use your TB, you would need a TB adapter plate. I would prefer to use the 3.5 TB, as it is 70mm, but the IACV would not work unless you could figure out a way to hook it up.

Now, I wonder why no one has asked if you would be willing to do the install in a member's car, and how much you would charge...

Or...is that out of the question?

Man, I'm really surprised nobody has jumped on this. I've seen plenty of people pay $1k for a motor from a salvage yard and have to do all the work and make/buy the custom parts. If people think $1300 is too much, make some reasonable offers.

Since I'm scheduled for surgery to repair a hernia, I won't be doing any heavy work or anything for that matter for a while. I appreciate the offer though.

Sorry to hear that. I wish you well on your surgery. Being the active, hands-on guy that you are, it will be hard to stay on the sidelines, so to speak.

I suffer from chronic neck and back injuries, and what seems like a simple DIY project for most people, has to be either GSE (Get Someone Else), or VTC (visit the chiropractor).

For example, right now I'm wondering who I can get to package up a set of 16" wheels and tires as I cannot even lift one of them up.

I hear you Dr. It's going to be hard on me being out of the garage for any period of time because I'm going to be picking up a 89 Supra full caged race chassis in the next few weeks. It is going to be hard having that sitting in my garage and not being well enough to work on it. Someone is going to have to buy this motor though to build up the initial funds for the Supra power plant part of the project(which won't be a 7M of any kind).

Check into shipping and send me a PM with what you came up with. I'd be interested to know. Depending on how much it is, it may be your lucky day.

A 1989 Supra with a full cage. It needs a ton of work, but in the end, it will have a stroked 302 sbf, C4 with a brake, drag suspension, and a set of slicks. Should be an equation that runs pretty well. I'm picking up the caged shell and donor car next weekend. It's going to be a busy winter for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be keeping the Maxima. I just need something that I can break on the weekend and not have to worry about how I'm going to get to work.

I have not weighed it, but would guess some where in the neighborhood of 400 lbs. You may want to check with freight carriers who service Columbus Ohio and Toronto to see if there is a hub to hub option. I can crate it and deliver to a hub in Columbus if you can pick up at a hub in Toronto. I'm willing to work with anyone wanting this shipped.

I just checked with Yellow Freight for hub to hub service. They have a hub in Columbus Ohio and one in Mississauga. If I drop off in Columbus and you pick up in Mississauga, the charges are going to range from $250 to $350 depending on final crate size and weight. This is much more affordable than I had thought. I would imagine for you domestic guys, there is a similar option for probably less.

What would be the cost of the xtras?

Inner and Outer timing cases
Primary and secondary timing chains and gears
Primary tensioner and guides
Water pump

Also, any idea on how many hrs. of labor would be needed to complete?

No extra cost, unless you plan to use parts other than what is on your existing motor. Depending on mileage, you may or may not want to replace some of the above rotating parts. Labor hours is a really hard thing to estimate because it is more dependent on the individuals mechanical abilities, equipment, and level of attention to detail. When I mapped out everything I needed to do in the swap, I was planning on 32 to 40 hours. I'm not an expert, but not new to working on a car either.
