WHAT ?!?!?! dude i posted TWO ****ing threads about that, and the few people that responded said i would have to replace the whole unit because the actual airbag was connected to the vinyl cover......wtmf ? ? ?

youre saying i can just rip the vinyl cover off this and slap a new one on ??

Hahaha yeah you can remove the cover.

Ask The Wizard about it. I am pretty sure that there are 8 small 8mm bolts holding the cover over the airbag. He wants to buy my 97 passenger airbag for the cover.

ive been hesitant to just removed the airbag for the hell of it

once i remove it, i will be able to see these bolts huh?

also, to remove the airbag itself,

disconnect the battery
open the glovebox and unscrew whatever i see?
plus theres a plug down there too right?

anything else?

whoa whoa whoa holllllllllld up.
the 97+ and 95-6 bags are very different. i dont remember exactly how the 97+ bags connect but the lid is loose, something about how it mounts in there is different. Its attached to these clips and I'm pretty sure can be removed if you bend the clips out of the way.
the 95 bag...as im looking at it right now....has like 4 rivets holding it on as well as the 8 bolts. if you have a 97 you better stick to a 97-98. but what do i know...i've only had to learn ALL of this the hard way despite the all the experienced and knowledgeable on the org.

and as far as swapping it out. I dont want to discourage you , but get ready for some cramped area, hard to get at bolts. nothing impossible, but I dont know if I'd have been able to do it without ratcheting wrenches.
