Stock size lightend crank pulley
I'm gauging interest in a lightweight crank pulley for the 95-01 vq30 engine. This should work for the 3.5 also.
I'm working with a supplier to get them made but might need a few people to show interest in buying it once it's designed. If your interested then message me on here. I can also be reached at 97maximachief@gmail.com
Here's some info I posted on a few Facebook pages.
As most of us know, the only aftermarket pulleys available to us is an underdrive pulley.
Underdrive pulleys are smaller in diameter and don't spin the drive belts as much as the stock one does.
I think Lightweight pulleys are great but would rather not underdrive my alternator or A/C or supercharger in my case.
When you have a aftermarket audio system it's a a big no-no to underdrive the alternator. It will lead to premature failure due to the extra stress of not producing enough juice.
People who run superchargers like my self can not run the underdrive pulley due to the Blower being belt driven. It will see less boost then with the stock pulley.
Reducing the weight with a lightweight flywheel and crank pulley lets the car rev faster and more freely. The stock size pulley will give the weight reduction and still drive the accessories (alternator, a/c, supercharger) with in spec.
Another thing I'd like to mention is the OEM crank pulley is make up of a metal center and metal outer ring. The ring is held on by rubber that tends to dry rot over the years. This will lead to the ring separating from the assembly. Leaving you stranded on the side of the road.
So in conclusion,
The pros are- light weight design, 1 piece design so it won't split into pieces, looks much better then stock, let's you run audio systems with out adding stress to the alternator, can be run with superchargers, keep your same size belts.
Cons- there's none unless you go with a underdrive.

A timing ring is still needed. The crank sensor is a hall effect sensor which relies on a magnetic field to determine where the teeth are at on the pulley as it rotates, which means a ferrous metal is required for the timing ring.
