Anybody with these tire size on the max.. i'm not sure if it's gonna fit.. or would look good.. but mostly.. be in good condition as of the tire size.. the 215 seems kinda small.. after all most people get 235/45/17 or somethin' like that.. 215? i don't know.. i found ALT 190 Rims with Star performance sport tires.. don't know if it would fit.. he says he owned a max.. and he had it on that.. i don't know.. any feedback.. thanx!

I have 225 width on an 15 inch rim. I would imagine you would want at least than wide on your 17s.

In 17" diameter, size 215/50/17 would be the best size. You would only want a 45 profile if you were using a 225 or 235 size tire.

If you have a good enough tire, you don't need that wide unless you are going for looks.

As for offset, it should be around 38mm which is fairly close to stock. Significantly less offset than that would give you more scrub radius (car slows more in turns due to rolling resistance drag) and less throttle response (the more outboard the weight, the more inertia).
A 215 tire should be a good 3 pounds lighter than a 225 which means even further reduction in inertia and better ride.

So you do not recommend me to get these tires.. the tires are star performance sport lower profile tires.. i don't know much about them.. but the rims are ALT 190.. they look nice.. i dont' see anyone with 215/45/17... so that's why i was wonderin'.. would u recommend it.. if it was for a cheap price? what if i get it? better than stock?
thanx!

I was thinking of getting a thinner tire myself once the time comes. The reason is, performance and handling wise, the closer matched the tire and wheel widths are (better ratio) the better handling you'll get. I remember someone posted a thread about that.

225 would be my choice, but if you're getting these cheap, and you're sure they will fit, go for it.

Why are you only looking at 215s? Are they on sale? Did you see the closeout deals on the sticky above?

I run 225/45-17s and like them.

i just went from a 205/55/16 to a 225/50/16 and i love the wider tire (better handling) if i were you i would get 215 or 225 but deffinately get a 45 profile (50 profile on a 17 inch rim wont look right)

nstymax93, you reccommend me get these rims/tires... they are better than stock right :-) (looks and performance) I'm gettin' these rims/tires for only 550.. well hopefully 550.. he wants 700 for them.. but i was readin' superstreets.. and found the package for these brand new is 900.. kinda cheap... i don't know.. cheap rims on my maxima.. but that's all i can afford... after all.. i want to get some struts/shocks and springs to lower my car too... so that's like 500 there... we'll hope some people can help me out wit this 215 tire size problem again.. i'm still unsure if it would look right or not.. he did sent me a pic.. but the car wasn't lowered.. but it still look nice...

I would go either 215 or 225 the wider the tire the better the handling is! Also dont go higher than 45 on the profile!! 50 profile on a 17 inch rim looks kinda funny and fat.

This is a misconception. A wider tire doesn't necessarily mean better handling. You may have some extra footprint on the ground, but if you don't have the actual wheel to hold it up, it will FLEX. Like I said before, the closer the ratio of the wheel/tire combo width to 1:1, the better.

edit: I know when deciding on a tire, you have to take the sidewall ratio into account too. That's why I feel 225s are probably the best choice.
