went out racing tonight!!!

I went to the drag strip tonight here in Clevelandand ran my 99 5 speed maxima.I never raced the car before not even stock so I dont know what I could have ran the quarter mile in. Tonight was my first night, all I have done to the car is K&N intake, stilllen Y-pipe, and took out catylac converter and put a straight pipe in. Thats all the mods for now but more stuff is on the way. Anyways I raced the car 5 times and my best run was 14.97 1/4 mile my 60 ft. was 2.389 at 93.55 miles in hour.
Can any one tell me if that time is OK or can the car perform better? Any other suggestions what mods to put on besides light weight flywheel, exhaust, chip, porter the intake manifold and ofcourse nitrous?

I don't know what your deal is, if you really own a Max or your just tryin' to stir up trouble. You have little faith in Maxima's it seems like..

People here have run high 14's STOCK. Nealoc ran a 14.8 in his stock '96 Maxima, Dave B. ran a 14.4-14.6 with intake and downpipe in his '95, and Theblue ran a 14.2 with a pop/downpipe/catback in his '97 which is impressive. Average people here get low 15's-15 flat in their stock 5-speeds.

What were your 60ft. times? If you get a good launch and the track/weather conditions are good, and your not running heavy rims/stereo, you'll hit mid 14's with no problem.

yo man, your probably right....well i have to say this but with the right altitude you are DEFINATELY right about the 5-speeds. its just that i've been owned by several other 4-door luxury/sports cars and i don't mean to discourage anyone else.....but the automatic transmission is slower than most other autos compared to THEIR manuals.....

14's are a good place to be, but u should be more around a 14.5 or so, compared to your 14.9. you didnt mention track conditions so that could be a big factor, or since u never really raced your car maybe you just need to get used to it. none the less 14's are good, try on a different day and see what happens. o yeah, when u go to the track try for not so humid days it will help your times suprisingly

Not to stir up anything, but why the hate towards the GXE's? Do you drive a Maxima? I'd be willing to bet there are quite a few GXE's on the .org that would gladly show you some tail lights in a race.

i didn't want to flame you at all, but the fact of the matter is that not every maxima is the same. i have a 95 GXE with no real mods other than removing the twisty bits off the intake of my car. My car ran 14.4 at 95.2 mph at my local drag stip (piedmont dragway) and the only thing i did to the car before the race was remove the muffler and turn the heat on high for a minute or so. so like i said not all maximas are the same.
and if there are doubter's, i'll do my best to find the time slip, but i think i've thrown it away being that it was over a year ago.

I went up to Cicero track by Syracuse and got a time of 15.002 @ 91.43, w/ a 60ft time of 2.286. It was 86 degrees and 50% humidity.
All you guys here get these amazimg track times. I guess it must be the elevation because I know Syracuse isn't exactly at sea level. I ran up against a firebird WS6 and he got a 14.14 time. So I'm guessing it must be the elevation.

For everyones information my maxima is SE!!! RED limited production date 03/99. Plus if it was a GXE so what just as fast. Everyone will agree. Oh yeah the weather conditions were high 80's on that night. Cut me some slack my tires are worn and my first time racing the car.

What type of cars did you race and how many races out of the did you win out of the 5?

Hmm, good luck, If I'm not mistaken, you getting into the 14s with those basic bolt ons will make you the fastest N/A auto. I believe the fastest is 15.0XXX (not sure what mods though). I think that would be pretty difficult but go for it. What do pullies do anyway?

It's tough.

Seems like the harder I try, the further away it gets. I'm consistently kicking on 14's door but it's a stout SOB and doesn't let you in easily.

pullies give you weight loss of off the crank shaft. that is the main gain in power, also there is little gain due to the fact of underdriving (hence underdrive pully)
