LSD 60foot times

What are you other guys with 5spd LSD running in the 60 foot ? ?

So after I have made a couple passes at the track, I am trying to figure out how bad i suck at launching this thing.. I have the factory nissan LSD 5spd tranny (canadian model I guess?). Compared to my normal 5spd tranny I had, there is a huge difference, but for some reason I still cannot get my times down.. after running at the track tonight (80 degrees, and a storm passed while i was there, so high humidity...) my best 60' time was a 2.29, which makes me very mad!

I hate FWD, I hate nissan clutch chatter, I hate wheel hop!!! launching my friends '00 M5 is soooo much nicer, its annoying!

It's not the LSD that's hurting you, its traction. Either your tires aren't good, the track isn't good, or a combo of both. I think any 2.2X 60 foot in FWD car is pretty decent. Don't put too much faith in that LSD when it comes to straightline acceleration. The LSD/HLSD trannies are more effective in the turns, not straightline. I rarely hear of anyone getting better 60's with LSD/HLSD trannies.

BTW, LSD=limited slip differential. The "limited" means that only 20-30% of the power is transferred to the wheel that has grip. It's not a 50/50 split like many think. Also, the LSD uses a fluid clutch to engage the system therefore there is a little slippage and wasted time before the system becomes fully operational.

I don't think I could pull the 60's I do without LSD. Not sure on the percentage to the other wheel but it certainly smokes and squeals both. Traction is key to 60's times and anything that can add to it helps, ie LSD, tires and suspension. I have been playing with the suspension now for 3 months and while it is much much better I still think it can be improved upon. However it takes time and a little creativity, a department I am not great in.

I agree Jim, LSD is a must for seriously low 60's on a FWD car. If your on a budget get better tires first though.

FWIW I had time to go to the track two weekend's ago and with my M&H's set at 11psi hot I was getting consistant 1.9xx 60' times with fast clutch slips at 5000rpms. It was hot as a MF'r and my juice wasnt firing because of an electrical problem, so my best was a 13.4 @104. Beyond traction it takes power to get very low 60's, If I add the juice I think consistant 1.8's are possible.

Good lord, last time I launched at 5000 RPM I blew the clutch. My best ever 60 foot was a 2.18 i believe on an open differential and street tires. 5000 RPM,s +SC + slicks must be hell on that clutch.

Well the clutch I have is a six puck sprung hub from clutch net. It holds it very well after it is warmed up. On my first few runs and burn outs it slipped a bit after it got hot it held like a champ. The hub on the clutch disc has six rivits, most maxima clutch discs hav only three rivits.

OK, first of all not to try and defend LSD as I know it is not equal distribution, but I wish I had run before.. I would spin that one tire haha, and now, spinning both tires more then 100' (estimating, way past the 60') I can run 2.45's...

I am currently running on the worst tires EVER, like 69$ all season 215's haha on my stock 15".. you ask why? I have Kumho Supra 712(225's) (not that great, but muuuuch better) on my 17" Konig Tantrum - but I found I run the exact same times at 2mph higher (in the 1/8th) on my 15" rims...

How much are decent slicks to put on my 15" rims , or is that stupid at this point...

also, my 2.29 was at 95degrees, 67% humidity.. weather sucks. track sucks also, but i cant help that - !

I said, don't ask. if you haave to know, consistent 15.0's, and that day (i Have only gone to the 1/4 once.. normally I do 1/8th) it was about 80% w/ a storm passing... I was very upset, but I have had my car 40,000 miles and have not had spark plugs changed, fuel filter, etc... and no telling when the previous owner did - so I am having that junk dealt with shortly..

I was very upset that those were the best I could do, when I was expecting low 14's... and I drove it perfect.. launched as well as anyone could on my tires - and had better then perfect shifts..

oh , and I ran a 15.7 w/ 2 200lb passengers!! haha just to know how much slower I am with passengers, that was funny - b/c these integras and stuff saw that as my first run of the day.. and were like thats not too bad.. then I pulled up with my windows down and 2 passengers... hahahah
