Middle East / Japanese Maxima's
If memory serves, the reason we used to have higher octane gasoline has to do with the syngergistic reaction that occurs when lead is added to gasoline; adding lead was an inexpensive way to chemically increase the octane, and when the lead was legislated out of our gasoline, the refiners had to produce more purely refined gasoline to come up to even close to the same octane numbers they were getting when there was lead in the gas. So while high octane gas may be available elsewhere, it might just be that much more expensive.
Does anyone know if we in the USA are legislativly restricted to lower octane gasoline, or does it have more to do with economics? For instance, I think I paid about $6/gallon when in England 2 years ago. Come to think of it, when I lived in FL I could get 93 octane at the pump, but in California the most I can get is 91. Except for that place in West LA that used to sell 100 octane racing gas. I hate to think some treehugger cruising around town on his Segeway scooter to pick up ferret food is keeping me from being able to tank up with some 99.

In Taiwan they add Benzene to bump up the octane
blah blah its really expensive to make clean high octane fuel... and the refining processes are all copyrighted so its hard for anything to go up... and the oil companies dont want the octane to go up they make more money as it is without raising the octane

There also is no 5th Gen body style for the Maxima in the ME. The 2002 Maxima there is not 3.5 Liter, and looks pretty much the same as a 1998 Maxima there, except with HIDs. (Can anyone figure out what I'm working on getting next for everyone here?)

What would a Middle East ECU do to our cars?
I'm thinking about ordering one from my supplier, and doing away with the ad-hock Harlan RPM Switch setup right now used to make the MEVI work.

Factory HID's we need to start some research here.
Because of the language barrier, my personal time, money, and other variables, I haven't gotten far on these things.
It's mostly a money thing. I would be ****ed if I bought HIDs for $400+ and they didn't fit my car or any other car in the US.
When I have the money, I'm going to try. But right now I just don't.

They will have a ecu although youll have to say you need one from a CEFIRO JAP IMPORT this is a NZ site and they usually respond to emails pretty quick. Prices they quote are in NZ dollars which I think the exchange rate is 43 c at the moment, ie 1 NZ dollar buys 43c US
