Are all 4th Gen ECU's the same?

Other than the difference between a 5sp and an Auto, can anyone tell me definitively if all 4th gen ECU's are the same? Is the 95-96 different from the 97-99 at all? What about 99.5's (the ones with some 5th gen style exhaust).

Thanks..

NOPE!!! There are so many different versions of the ECU for the 4th gen. When I was looking for one, I had to match the number on the ECU sticker. There are several versions just for the 1999. Here's a example. It basically breaks down to.

1. Build date. Before 10/98 or after 10/98.
2. Trim. SE/GLE or GXE. I believe the GXE has a speed limiter.
3. Tranny type. Auto or 5 speed.
4. Tracation control or no traction control.
5. Cali-spec or fed-spec

Let me clarify. I'm talking physically different. I forgot about the speed limiter issue. I know that the GXE's and most GLE's without C&C have a limiter, and that includes and extra wire. Do the non-limited versions just not have that wire? The other stuff I think is pretty software specific.. Which trim, traction control, cali-spec, etc would seem to be just different software in the same ECU. If there are more physical wires required for the traction control or tranny control, etc then I could see non-software issues. I am simply looking for hardware compatibility. What happens if you try to buy a JWT ECU? Do they need to know every option on your car, etc?

Thanks Again..

Also, how much did that ECU cost you and how did you go about finding it?

GLEs arent limited. And there is no "extra wire" associated with cars that are...

Physically they are the same. You can plug them in. The problem is when the software would be looking for a signal from a wire but gets no reading. ie. ECU is looking for some form of signal from the traction control sensors, but it couldn't find any.

I got lucky and found it for $100. They usually go for $150 - $300. My car was dead because I shorted out the main processor.
