Sagging Drivers Door

I'm noticing that I need to shut the door twice these days and found my door is slightly sagging. I was wondering if adding some shims would correct the situation and what should I use for shims? Anybody else have this problem?

Make sure all of your hinge bolts are tight.

Yes, you can shim it. You could use thin plstic or metal I guess...

Thanks! I'll try it this weekend.

I watched someone in a body shop put a hydraulic floor jack under an opened door, raised the door with the jack and pretty much bend the door and hinges up. That may work if it's hitting on the bottom.

You need to replace the door hinge pins & bushings. After a time the bushings wear out & the pins will bow out a little bit, thus causing the door to sag. Go to you Nissan dealer & they should be able to set you up with the parts.
If you put in the shims it will work for a while, but eventually will start to sag again. The same holds true for using a jack on the door.
The right fix will cost you about $10.00 for the parts & about an hour of your time to fix.

I'll give that a try first. Thanks!

If it returns then I'll get new door hinge pins and bushings as MaineMax suggested. Cheers guys!

Note** Never go to that body shop again

More than likely though that would screw it up royally in the long run though. The hinges would be wrecked and eventually sag right back to where they were only now with about 1" of slop.

I think what you saw in the bodyshop was

they losed the screws in the hinge then jacked up the door a little then tighten up the screws.

You are right. Using the jack to bend the hinges is an old body shop trick. It's cheap & quick, but in the long run will screw up your door even more.

MaineMax is absolutely right. Tried the other tricks with my '78 Camaro, which are notorious for having heavy, long doors. They work for a while, but then you end up worse than when you started. Hinge pins and bushings are cheap, and with a friend to help with the door are not hard to do. It is a permanent fix.
