Probably covered previously...use a vice-grip pliers to grip the **** tightly, you'll want to wrap a towel around it first if you don't want to damage it, and twist counter clockwise hard to break the glue seal. After that it should screw off pretty easily. You probably can't get them off with just your hands if the factory glue seal hasn't been broken.

Just did it today on my '99. Had to get a Grip Wrench from Home Depot. That worked great and didn't leave so much as an indent in the original ****. By the way, your quarter mile time....ummm...it's not good especially for a 5-speed. Were you: 1)on the top of Mt. Everest, 2)Driving on 5 cylinders, or 3)first time you'd ever driven in your life?

It depends. If it's a universal aftermarket shift **** with set screws, it will work I believe. But if it's a momo **** that's specifically made to match the Honda threads, then it won't. The first case is kind of a cheap way anyway - I'd personally get something with the nissan thread lengths if I got anything. We're lucky in that respect - we have the same thread lengths as Mazdas, which means all shift ***** available for Miatas are fair game for us.
