Weight of the Bridgestone S-03's
Hey, I posted earlier, and someone said the toyo's are lighter than the heavy S-03's, the question is, how much ligher and how much of a difference will it make during acceleration? I have a SC and 5spd if that helps, I was thinking putting down more traction would be important what should I choose, thanks?
P.S. I have giovanna geneva's 18X8.5 rims-silver, prob ~25-30 pounds each

Hello:
If you are concerned with weight, why would you go with 18"x8.5" wheels?
Size makes more of a difference that the tire type.
When I was shopping for some 16" tires, I found the Bridgestones, Dunlops, and Yokahamas were all nearly identical weight for the same size. I don't know about toyo tires.
Yes, it does make enough of a difference that you'll actually notice. Even just cutting 2-3 pounds on the tire will make an improvement. Yes, putting really wide wheels slows down acceleration due to rolling resistance and mainly due to more weight being more outboard from the axle.
Call the people at www.tirerack.com and they can tell you the weight of any tire you are interested in.
You can go to www.wheelweights.net if you are curious about the weight of wheels.
For an example, there is a 3 pound weight difference from a 225/55/16 and a 215/55/16 S-03 tire.

FYI, I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE950 tires on my stock 15" SE wheels on my '96. I weigh them when I got them. They weighed in at 24lbs. That's pretty darn heavy for 15" tires IMO. So you could just imagine how much heavier the bigger size tires are for the Bridgestone's.

You have TE-37s and sold them to get cheap heavy knockoff Giovanna brand wheels
Anyhow, the weight difference in my size (235-40-17) between S-03s and T1-S is 5 lbs IIRC. My toyos are 20lbs a piece and I believe the S03s were 25lbs a piece.

I have a set of SSR Competition (Type C) wheels with Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires. The Kumhos are pretty light (relatively) and the rims I have are 11 lbs a piece. They have never been used cuz I bought them for my old car before I got wrecked it and never had a chance to really enjoy them.

I beg to differ. I have 22 lbs Konig Monsoons and didn't really notice a difference over my stock 16" rims.

BTW to whoever said they weren't, the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 is a very heavy tire.
