Is it ok to paint the heat shiled on the back of the hood?

I took off and painted the heat shield that is attached to the back of the hood.......I heard that this shield is suppose to distribute the heat evenly around the engine bay....

is there any reasons that I shouldn't be painting it?

The back of the hood? Are you talking about the insulation? Or are you still running the original airbox? In any case, it should be fine, just use high temp paint.

I am talking about the insulation material stuck to the back of the hood.....I got a short ram HKS.....

if painted does this not allow for the heat to travel around..

or am I worrying too much?

I think the insulation is so when the outside of the hood it touched- your hands dont start melting!

And you shouldnt worry about painting it, there are many people that have taken it off!

Later Days...

I heard you lose a good amount of weight that way. Is there some sort of light weight material you could replace it with that would perform the samr function?

I heard it was there to put out fires under the hood. The plastic bolts holding it to the hood melt at High/ Low temps (like a flame) and that sheild falls on to the engine putting out the fire. Thats just what i heard though.

I took mine off. It doesn't save any real weight, it only weighs about 2 pounds, if that.

It is there to put out engine fires, but removing it reduces underhood temps significantly.
