Fuel Average?

what's up guyz... i was wondering how much milage everybody gets on their max's.. My car eats gas like crazy. I have 95 gle Automatic with 45k miles on it... I get like ~210 miles per tank. Is there anything i could do to increase fuel efficiency?
I just filled up today and it calculated out to 19mpg. This is all "around town" driving. Not that great, but it's alot better at highway cruising. As far as solutions to increase mileage, just make sure that everything is in good working order. I know that one simple thing to check to ensure good milage is tire pressure. Make sure it's within specs.
Well Im getting about 310-350miles per tank and I thought that my max was wasting to much gas...so I don't know....

Someone told me to change the fuel filter to get better milage, it this true?
my car got 65K, new NGK plug, and new air filter.
I get 400-530 miles per tank. I usually shift at around 3000 rpm and drive about 80 on the hwy. If I avg90-100 on the hwy my range drops to 400 miles or so. Don't think your fuel filter has anything to do with it If you add more air in your tires you could incrementally increase fuel mileage at the risk of losing handling.
I get about 450 with mixed driving. I find that after I take my car in to the dealer, my mileage goes down and my performance goes up slightly. My tips for good economy are as follows:
1) skip gears...when you hit the speed limit go to fifth gear. I use fifth as my cruising gear.
2) avoid red lights. When you can't, don't speed your way just to stop and wait. If no ones behind you, coast it.
3) try to keep a constant speed on the fwy.
make sure the tires are properly inflated, the nissan dealer infates mine to 35 psi all around the car. I guess you should take it into the dealer and have it inspected. I know it costs an arm and a leg, but I take my car once a year. I do all the rest of the maintenance myself. The problem could be a number of things from you suspension, tires, engine, exhaust system, or electrical.

I get about 300 per tank in the city, and I can pull almost 400 on the highway. My car was doing a lot worse before, but recently I extracted a clump of black goo (best I can describe it) from the throttle body. Mileage has significantly improved since then, so have it checked out if you think your mileage is too low.
driving style
I got 250 a tank when I would keep it pegged to the floor on the interstate, doing that and with a couple friends in the car will kill your gas milage. Although if I would try not to let it pass 3000rpm through the week I would get about 350-375 on a 96 se auto 55k.

Gas
I have a 95 SE auto and i will get 300 around town if i'm lucky. I usually get less but that's probably because of the way i drive. Maybe i'll have my throttle body inspected.

Ok since there is a big difference between EMPTY and what ppl think is EMPTY let's just post what we get when the little orange light first comes on.
I get about 250ish around town. I think my driving style needs to change.

Posting how miles you get per tank doesn't tell much. It's miles per gallon that counts.
I get around 19-21 MPH in mixed driving, 50/50 city highway.
As for the dude who gets 530 miles on one tank of gas....man that's excellent...clap clap clap...

This is my humble two cents worth for automatics...
For automatics:
If you are at a stop longer than just a few seconds, put the tranny into neutral. This cuts fuel usage by about 30% to hold idle speed since the engine doesn't have to drag the torque converter across a stationary driveline.
Air Conditioning on puts about another 10% increase in fuel usage especially in slower driving.
If your driving is a lot of low speed crawling and stop and go type stuff, your engine coolant and intake temperatures will naturally be running maybe 20F - 30F degrees higher than if you were moving along and keeping things cool... All that starts to cut down on efficiency...
If the car is under load at higher speed -- like a moderate uphill grade, use 3rd gear... Overdrive is just for high speed cruising... If under a load from a grade elevation, you need to give more throttle and fuel in Overdrive than you do in 3rd... At least that is what my TECHTOM MDM-100 diagnostic unit tells me.
By following the above, I've noticed my mileage has gone up maybe 10% in city cycle driving which would put me around 290 miles on a full tank ~ about 16 gallons. And this is without using Overdrive on the highway running below speeds of 75MPH... >> but there are a lot of elevation grades on the highways near my house... This will take me a few fill ups to assess accurately how all these changes are working out.
HEY "WEASEL":
Tell us more about this black goo you found in your throttle body... Was it just there or all up through the intake manifold? I've got about 70,000 miles on my car... Should I be unbuttoning the top end of the engine to clean it out? I noticed that the local Nissan dealer has a "TOP ENGINE CARBON REMOVAL SERVICE"... Maybe it might be worth checking out... They want something like $400 dollars for it...

Chris, sorry I didnt reply earlier. The gunk was what I guess to be dirt from the air filter or some sort of carbon buildup. You don't need to take off the top end of the engine and you certainly don't need to pay 400 bucks for it. The local dealer charges 70 bucks for a throttle body cleaning, and it's not too hard to DIY (although I had help).
I get between 19 to 23 in town And on road trips I have gone all the way up to 29 with premium gas. That was on my 95Se Automatic. I just got a 99Se Speed It is geared lower so I expect it's highway mpg's will be one or two less.
With Maxima'a it all depends on your right foot. After I drove my Max at a Porsche club driving school at Mid-Ohio I got 11Mpg's!!!

17mpg? I guess I'm a bad driver
OK, well I am still kinda in the break in stage, I have only put maybe 5-10 tanks of gas through her since I got it.. she spent a little time parked in the garage after the speeding ticket incident (130mph) but now she is alive again! So anyone who is getting better than 17 be happy
BTW: I am obviously using the best gas available...

I have a 96 5 sp with 79k. I am getting between 375 to 400 miles on my tank with premium fuel. I added 2k Max rims and my mileage did not suffer. My driving is 50city/50hi and I am an aggressive driver who averages above 75 on the highway and likes to accelerate off lights. I am no expert mechanic (thank god my best friend is) but I would say there is definitely something wrong with your car. Who knows, the problem if fixed could make your car faster too!
