seatbelt won't retract automatically....

i've done a search but found no answers...anyway..my driver's seatbelt won't retract by itself after i unbuckle it...i have to manually roll the seatbelt back...this only happens to my driver's side..not my passenger's seatbelt...is there anyway i can make it retract by itself?

most likely its because theres a build up of crap thats on the part where the seat belt slides over. what you do is get some alcohol or something and get ride of the build-up so the belt can freely slide over it. I read that on one of the TSBs

i was noticing this very thing a few seconds ago...and now there is a thread on it. i only notice it when it is really hot or humid out. it used to never do it in the spring months, and on the cooler summer days here in MD.

if anyone has found a remedy to this, your insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Umm...people either one of two things is wrong:

1. It is broken - In this case Nissan is required to replace the belt free of charge for the life of the car, no matter what.

2. It is dirty - It needs to be cleaned, which should run around $45 from your Nissan dealer, but well worth the $ since its a real pain and it might not retract well in an accident (why bother using it at all?)

Mine was broken and Nissan replaced it for me.

Good luck,
Erik
