Do the 2k & 2k1 engines fit?

Do the 2k & 2k1 engines fit?
I have a 97 Max and want to know if the 2000 and 2001 engines fit, because I'm thinking about rebuilding or buying a new engine before I start adding any mods, but if I can upgrade then that would be an even better start.

No the 2000+ intake manifold won't fit under the hood. If you are serious about building a motor, do a little research and you will find that the 95-99 engine has every bit as much potential as the 2000-2001 engine, without the headaches of swapping, wiring, etc.

IIRC, VQ30DET is only available in a RWD application.
JWT tried to convert one to a FWD application (specifically a gen4 Maxima, IIRC they did this sometime in 1997 or so) and THE BLOCK WOULD NOT FIT. They had to machine the block to get it to fit.
I believe Tilley didn't actually fit the DET block, but he swapped over alllllllllllllllllllllll the DET parts into his DE block. Same end result, only that "DET parts into DE block" is a better description than a "DET swap".

Parts for what? You don't need to swap DET parts into a DE motor to do a turbo. If you're serious about power, turbocharge or supercharge your car and THEN see how much more power you want.
A built motor does not equal more power. It allows more power to be made potentially, but does not itself create more power. If you're going to swap DET parts into your DE without a turbo, you'll be disappointed.

Internal Mods
- If you want to mod the inside of your engine, you could get new pistons and rods. Go to a higher compression ratio piston (10.5:1) for a naturally aspirated car, or a lower compression ratio piston (9.0:1) for a forced induction car. Stronger rods will help.
- Then, you could port and polish the heads. They flow pretty well right now, but there's always room for improvement.
- Then, you could get the JWT cams, the MEVI, a supercharger, or a turbo.
- Hey, does anyone know what the VQ30DET came in?

So then there is no way to work around the 2000+ maxima manifold? I am coming up on a rebuild and rather do the swap. I mean low miles plus a 32 horsepower gain. I am serious about doing this engine swap. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would help me out a ton. Thanks.

Re: Internal Mods
I think european versions of the 1st gen Q45 may have had that motor.

The engine came in...
Gloria/Cedric here is an engine catalog http://www.freshalloy.com/site/featu...nes/home.shtml
this is a nice place to look at all the new stuff.

or you can wait till 333matt333 gets his VQ-K running.

DAREN
Thanks for your reply, I am still debating this and will proabably wait til the swap has been done. If I was to use my manifold wouldn't that eliminate some of the extra power produced by the new engine?
Thanks agian,
