Differential Fluid change for Automatic Tranny

It may surprise y'all, but all auto trannys have differential fluid (80W 90) for oiling AXLEs.
I was searching all threads and they didn't mention this one...
I just went under my car and I can't find the drain bolt for differential fluid...
I only found engine oil drain and transmission drain bolt.

If any of y'all can help me find it, I would appreciate much.

Oh boy

94 Legend auto has it.
my friend's 92 civic auto has it.
my dad's 96 E150 auto has it.
my friend's mommy's 96 camry auto has it.

Uh, u know that where transaxle and axle meet, there are gears that turn, so when you take a turn the joint moves to save your axle from tearing apart.

And usual gear oil (differential fluid) 80W 90 is the one that helps the gears from grinding out.

I also checked my Haynes and they don't have it.
RWD has diff. at rear axle
FWD has diff. at front axle

Where on my Max???

limited slip differential is a type of differential.

Check out the website:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/differential1.htm

Autos also use differential.
I need to find where?

"The differential is found on all modern cars and trucks, and also in many all-wheel-drive (full-time four-wheel-drive) vehicles."

Am I the only one among Maxima.org members about to change my diff. fluid for auto tranny?

I just checked Nissan Field Service Manual and it does not mention any separate oil supply for the differntial portion of the front axle. I spent an hour going through that 1583 page monster. I will call the Infinti Dealer tomorrow, I always call them, they are several levels above Nissan Dealers in their attitude to customer service. I'll also check on the status of the alternator recall.
Be well!!!!

There is no separate service or oil supply for the front axle differntial. The differntial is lubricated by the transmission oil / fluid as per Infiniti Service Manager. My 1998 Honda is the same way. Learn something new everyday.

My mechanic also says that there is no diferential fluid...it is lubricated via the transmission fluid.

Lubed Lube People

I called 3 lube places today and one said Maximas don't have separate differential fluid, one said it would cost $29.99 to change diff. fluid on my auto Maxima, and one said they don't have any idea.

So I called Regal Nissan, and they just told me Maxima doesn't have diff. fluid

Then I called United Nissan, and they had no idea.
Interesting...
So I sent email to Nissan USA by going to Nissandriven.com

Hope we get some solid answers.
luck

Official Nissan Word on This Thread

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.

Thank you for your interest in the Nissan Maxima. I was informed by
our technical support that the axle and transmission are combined, therefor needing only the transmission fluid. This is the case with both the automatic and manual models.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to
e-mail us.

Sincerely,

Rae McCullough
