5 speed trans question

I have a 96 5 speed and was wondering if a 97 5 speed would bolt up
The web site says it is a locking, which mean it is a vsld right?
Would I need any other parts from the car to make it fit axle etc?
thanks for the help
How much does one go for with 9000 miles on it? He is asking 1500
but I know someone that works there so it would be cheaper.

Yes, it will bolt right up. A lot of places dont know the difference between the trans models. Most of them only stock one, but list both. The standard US market 5 speed is the RS5F50A, with no VLSD. The one you want is the RS5F50V, this has the VLSD.

Make sure you talk to a human being to confirm that this is the model you are getting.

Most places list different axles for the VLSD trans, but they are actually the same.

All of your other accessories and parts will work. You just need the actual transmission.

I just swapped to LSD about 1-2months ago.. used my normal 5spd shafts, and no troubles (knock on wood)... lsd is great, and 9000miles, I wouldnt be surprised at that high price.

Note: I purchased LSD w/ 60k for 500$ i think, i forget, but i got a steal... goodluck!

Note2: LSD is great.

LSD is great, except when you have a bad trip.

works fine though.
I will keep you in mind how much do they sell for?

Be wary, though, some people will tell you anything to make a sale.

I went to a yard yesterday that promised me they had a VSLD tranny, but when I got there, they weren't so sure after all. I smelled a rat and didn't buy it. I looked for the RS5F50V number but couldn't find it. Where is it? I did find this stamped on the case: 4920BZV. Anybody know what that designates? I also found the VIN. Would that tell me anything about what kind of transmission it is?

Thanks!

damn some people have been going a looking at the 5 speed
and they really do have a vlsd trans has the v and everything.
So the guy raise the price of it to 1650 but he says he will still
sell it to me for 1500 (oh boy) and hold it till friday.
Is that to much for a vlsd trans with 9000 miles on it out of a 97 max
If so I will keep looking

Dang! That's a lot of money. But it is low mileage, and if it truly has vlsd, then it's up to you I guess. Still, for only 4 or 5 hundred more you could find an open diff tranny and put a Quaife in it.

Where was the number with the V? On the tag on the vehicle firewall, or on the transmission case?
