clear rear lights?

How exactly do you make the rear lights clear? you just go to home depot and ask for clear tape? is there any special kind of tape i should ask for? Once you get it you just stick it over the amber light right? do i have to get an amber light or is it legal the way it is? sorry for all the stupid questions i'm just a newbie.

Anyone know where to get set set of the straight up clears as well as a place to order the paint. I would like to try to paint mine myself because I never got a response from the dave character and I don't wanna pay 200.00
