Loud vs Quiet

Why are people all crazy about keeping their car quiet. I admit I'm not to fond of the very loud Honda Civics that go by at night and you can hear them miles away. I think it can be annoying if its too loud and yes I prefer a quite muffler. HOWEVER! Horsepower and Torque is my first love. In other words if the difference between a quiet muffler and a loud as hell muffler is 1hp. Then you best believe I'm getting the loud one just for that extra horse. Lets concentrate on horses and torque instead of suppressing the sound made by our cars. Sheesh!

But since we arnt driving competition level race cars, 1hp shouldnt even be noticable and isnt important to the average maxima driver.
I'd rather have a nice deep "quality" exhaust note than a loud raspy sound, at the cost of 1hp.

saying u get a loud muffler just cuz u like the noise is different than getting it for the power, to many of us we dont think having to hear the noise isnt worth 1 HP, u cant feel the difference

I'm generally annoyed that some people choose the quiet route at the expense of power, yes. Again I realize that people have diffrent taste and what not, but to me its always been about the 1/4. If I have 1 extra horse and we both drive identically then I will be you by a hair line. Wining is wining it does not matter if its by a hairline or by several cars. Its probably just me. I don't care if I have to wear ear muffs, but I will just for that extra horse. I'll probably sacrifice my seat and steering wheel and use a joy stick and stand or crouch for an extra horse! Call me crazy but when you loose to me because I went all out, and beat you by an inch......I'll rub it in your face! Los locos kick your ***, los locos kick you face, los locos kick you *** into outer space! Hehe, let me know if I should stop while I'm ahead or if I have a point. Regardless I love you all! Peace, Love, Happiness and Maximas!

Some mufflers actually help scavenge exhaust gases to produce more hp than an open exhaust, so you get a faster quieter ride. Wow, go figure.

Honestly, it all depends on what kind of sound your talking about. Theres that Can Sound where it sounds like the muffler is constantly pounding on the floor. Or theres that Deep Tone sound. The sound of a Farari! I liek the deep tone sound honestly. But either way, power is power. I just cant actually stand the change of having my car Completley quiet. So I agree with you in a way.

BTW, The Johny 5 Thing, I found that a bit funny!

hmmm I chose the quietest non Nissan muffler I could find... my intake sometimes annoys me... loud doesnt mean fast... turbo'd cars arent very loud... uhmmm I think most of the time a loud car like the Maxima is just rice... it doesnt need to be that loud you probably get as good performance out of the 5th gen variable capacity muffler than any aftermarket muffler/exhaust...

you wana wear earmuffs? sure wateva floats your boat... but if I'm next to your car dont make me wear earmuffs...

when your trying to have a normal conversation in your car.... and the person in the back seat can't hear you.. time for a little noise reduction IMHO.

noise=HP ......Most of the time.

And as the old saying goes..just cause it's loud..... don't mean it's fast

Ever see a good sounding mustang/camaro that runs 16 in the 1/4?

I have.. ever see a quiet BMW/Nissan run a 13.8.. I have.

So right now you fall in the middle.

Take it for what's it is worth..

But as always make yourself happy first.. don't worry what other people say

I think you should "sacrifice" your maxima for a Grand National or something domestic then. The max wasn't really designed to be a 1/4 beast...sure, it can be improved straight-line-drag wise, but not as easily as other rides. Course, if you're looking for that shock factor, have a good deal of money, and a lot of experience working under the hood, then the max is a good car to work with.

All this "I'll do anything to get 1 extra hp!" talk and you were wondering the other day if you should do anything about your cracked-sidewall cheapy tires?

haha agreed

In my opinion, I'd like to have the extra horses but also not at the expence of my quiet car. That's the only thing that's holding me back right now... i want to preserve the "classy" appearance of car. I'm sure down the road that would all go out the window and i'd scream for power power power! but for now, nothing wrong w/ goin the quiet route. And its not like the car is weak stock anyways...

First off you wouldn't catch me in an American car. Not even a Viper, I very narrow minded and hate anything on wheels thats American. I hate the Viper, Mustang and Lightning SVT, all Corvettes. If American cars were democracy consider me Castro or Mao Tse Tsung, maybe perhaps Stalin. Yes I have a crack on my tire, and what? You got a problem? I'm known for handing out problems if you are interested. Hehe just kidding, but why are you mentioning my crack? Holla!

Hehe, I was just giving you some light ribbing with my pointy elbows. Really tho, you should treat the max with some nice rubber when your wallet gives you a chance.

Cool, very cool! I love it when someone takes my humor in a good way. I talked to some fellow Las Vegans and they informed me that tires are known to crack here alot. They said "don't worry unless you see wires". True or false? I'm thinking Y-pipe before new rims & tires. Its too much money. BTW what are the main diffrences between the aluminum and the two SS Y-pipe by Warpspeed? As far as HP and torque are concerned, other than that?

WSP is american so you shouldnt buy it, unless you want your Maxima to be Americanized. Go with Budget instead.

WSP, K&N filters, and APC I have nothing against. Its just the cars themselves.
