Auto Transmission Shifting

Hey guys, I am pretty new at this stuff, so I wanted to know if it hurts the transmission to put the shifter in 1, then move it up to 2, then Drive while you are moving. If I do this, will I have to let off of the accelerator, or can I keep it pressed down? I have raced some people, and I accelerate much faster this way because I can actually redline. Please let me know. Thanks!

Shawn

I second that, there are over 5 threads (all 5+ pages) on this topic. Most people will tell you to leave it in Drive.

Shift when you Race. Leave it in Drive when your not racing.

PS. Yes, you can hold down the gas pedal when you shift. Something I learned from this board

I disagree.. 115k miles and still no slipping tranny

I put it in 1 or 2 and ride out. BTW this has been talked about alot.

Yes you can leave the gas pedal to the floor board. I do.

Take care of your car/tranny and it will take care of you

I leave mine in D with O/D on when racing.

But then my times are pretty slow.
