Autos : does your OD light blink after you start your car?
I've put almost 55K miles on this car and only the past couple months have I noticed that my OD light blinks when I turn my car on. I don't think it's always done this, but I am a bit crazy, so who knows. Someone back me up on this one.

Actually, if your Overdrive lamp flashes, it means that something is going "awry" with your transmission. Also, more than likely, it will trip the CEL, but will not illuminate the CEL lamp. It is a "ghost" code like the knock sensor. You can extract the transmission codes from the "tranny computer". This will tell you what is wrong with the transmission. The process seems kind of long and complicated, but if you follow step-by-step, you shouldn't have a problem. If you have access to a Hayne's manual, you can find the procedure on pages 7B-2 and 7B-3. Good luck!

BTW mecca, did you get a new engine (EGI) harness when you did your tranny swap? Most likely, otherwise it wouldn't hook up. Did you remove your auto tranny computer? You don't need it anymore ...

You have your ECM (Engine control module) which is the one with diagnostic screw near the driver foot / accel pedal area.
There's also an ATCU (A/T control unit) close to it. Which one did you change out?
In my 95, you can see the ATCU if you pop off the (A/T) shift trim and look forward. The harness connector is right in front of you, has a red projection on the center of the connector. To the best f my knowledge, it's the ATCU that triggers the O/D off lamp, not the ECM.

this happend to me on a snowy NJ morning. I had spun my tires excessivley on and icey local road and then slammed the brake hard( not a smart move by the way)
The tranny then locked itself into 2nd gear. When I stopped on the side I turned off the car and restarted it and it blinked the OD light a few times, same behavior the tranny was locked into 2nd gear.
At the next time I tried it, the OD light didnt blink and the car was back to normal. This apparrently was some kind of safety mechanism built into the tranny from what I was told.
