in racing- how significant are more people in car

Yea this is really embarassing but I had 4 people in my car (plus a box in the trunk) and i roll up next to some kid in a pimped out (get this) malibu of all thing- anyways- i didnt know he wanted to race but he floors it from the stop light. Caught offguard I go (about a second behind him)_ I pulled up about to a half a length behind him but couldnt pull up. Granted we didnt go over like 60 bc I had to switch lanes and pull into the bar but man I was embarassed. Hearing my friends say damn u just got beat by a malibu! I want to find this guy and redeem myself

i dont think its makes a HUGE difference unless u have say 4 300 lb people or something like that..i personally feel races r won of the start and that cars of somewhat equal hp, if they get a jump on u or catch u offguard it really is hard to catch up. an example ill use is my firends 1.8t jetta the 140 hp model. i let him go about 2 cars then go on it and i just couldnt catch him..i was gaining but slowly. I dont feel people that race "smoke" other cars unless they have say a trans am racing a civic or something.

4 people in the car would make some difference but I think you lost because of the headstart he head. A second is a long time especially when you're only going up to 60.

Man you lunchin! It makes a huge difference. If u wouldn't have had those people in your u would have walked him. Even if u have one person in your passanger seat, that would make a difference.

I beleive it makes a significant difference. Weight and drag slow a car down considerabley. Accelerting fast depends on reducing these tow variables. And added weight just decreases your power to weight ratio, especially with four people, to that of a minivan.
