My wifes Saturn broke down, I think its the shifter Help!

I had her car towed into an auto repair station but they were closed so I will go in the morning. I just wanted anyone’s opinion on the problem before I go over there.

Her gear shift is loose as if there is nothing attached to it. You can move the shifter around without any give and it does not feel like any gears are available. The clutch
Doesn’t have to be pushed in or out for this to happen.

I believe the shifter stick is broken but I don’t have any experience diagnosing this problem. I wanted to get some info from anyone who has had or seen this happen.

Its a Saturn why should anyone care, J/k. I just got back from a trip and we rented a saturn, my lawnmower sounds better than that! Sorry to spam ur thread!

Depending if it uses a 'rod' or 'cable'... either the rod connections came loose or the cable snapped.

The same thing happened to my cousin, he doesn't have first gear so he drives from second...
