Dealer couldnt find key fobs, how can I tell if I have keyless

Hi guys, on my new 1999 se limited. The dealer said the previous owner did not turn the car in with any keyless entry things. I do however have right below the cruised a thing that says security and a blinking light when I turn the car off. Does this mean I have keyless entry, also I noticed a funny look orange item in the gas cap door like it lock that door in?? Any ways to figure it out would be appreciated.

Yes, you have keyless.

You can buy a new (or used) keyfob on ebay or at the FS forum for around $20 and reprogram it yourself, very easy. Instructions are on this forum, search for reprogram remote (or similar) to find the method.

i heard some method about sticking your key into the ignition 7 times real fast and your turn signals will flash - that indicates that you have keyless try a search on that.

I have keyless entry on my '97 SE, and have a funny looking orange thing on my gas cap door, too. Maybe just me, but I always assumed it is to hold the gas cap when filling the gas tank? Works quite well. Do the "insert key in ignition many times" thing and that should tell you if you have keyless entry. I'd ask the dealership for remotes to the car. They can reprogram new ones for you. A good business would give them to you out of courtesy if the car originally came with keyless entry.

The was I found out I had keyless entry is that i had my windows down, locked all the doors with the key and left it there for a min...then i put my hand inside the car through the open window and opened the car from inside...it started honking and lights were flashing...behold the factory alarm.

Anybody know if the factory alarm is all that great?
