Who Else has gotten their Alternator replaced from the recall

I got mine replaced but to be honest I cant tell if they replaced it or not( paper work says they did). The deal says not all VIN numbers in the range is affected, who else has had theirs done.

I went to the dealer the other day, he looked at my car and said I need to get it replaced. he looked at a tag on the alternator, and depends on the color (red, green ???) it determines if it's affected. I think it's in their interest to replace it, because they get money from nissan for doing it, so Monte, I bet they changed yours.

Since mine was manufactured on 1/98 and is affected by the recall, I'm getting mine replaced at my Nissan dealer this Fri. along w/ them doing a SES diagnostic + an oil change

Well, I'm scheduled to have mine look at tomorrow morning. I fall within that range also. Hopefully, I won't receive those annoying calls from the dealer telling me I need to replace this and that. The dealer by me is notorious for doing $hit like that!

Thanks for the link Monte... I called them anyways to have it checked and my alternator isn't affected.. damn haha. Well, at the same time i had them update the info for my VIN number w/ my information because i bought my maxima recently from a private owner.

Well, i went to the website and i take it that the alternator recall is the ONLY official recall for the history of maximas under 1999? Or does the website only show the current recall...

Any of you worry that they may take a perfectly good car and fubar it? My Max is in the VIN range, but I'm hesitant to bring it in.

Always a concern to me too.... But since this piece can burn your car/garage/house to the ground I'm getting it done.... Wait a few months though for all the loser mechanics to at least get some practice on other peoples' cars.

Got mine done yesterday.. They changed it because I can see shiness from new alt. Anyway, it looks smaller than older one. Perhaps, they just replaced with 100AMP? I can't tell from paper work because there is no indication of AMP. I went to PART Dept right after they fixed it, and they yelled at me "IT's RIGHT ONE".. Well, can someone verify this part number is for SE(110AMP) or GXE,GLE?

2310M-0L706R ALT ASSY

I went to several nissan parts website, but couldn't verify this part number. Perhaps, this is new part number for recall only.

I thought only cars with the 'cold weather package' (heated seats and mirrors) got the higher output alternator.

I am going tomorrow to see if mine needs to be replaced.

Update - It does need to be replaced and the mechanic said it will probably get rid of that soft whining noise I have. It is being done now, I love free stuff

My car was full option(Leather, and Cold Package), and I saw Highoutput Amp Alternator listed on my price sticker on windshield.

I got a recall notice from Nissan for my 1997 GLE. I have cold package also.

eskim_77 did you find out what is the proper part number for the Highoutput Amp Alternator? What did you get installed?

The part number was 2310M-0L706R Alt Assy. Is it same with yours?
I asked part guy, and he yelled at me about being paranoid and not trust their works. It seems smaller than before, but what can I say?

I got my alternator changed on 9/4/02 and the engine runs a little more quieter with the new alternator installed. Anyhow I just checked the paperwork they gave me and the part number on the document is identical to the part number you listed. But my car is an SE model but does not have the cold weather package, so it doesnt need the 110 amp alternator. Hopefully the replacement will work OK for you, but my hunch is they put the wrong one in your car. Having a smaller alternator shouldnt be a huge problem as long as you dont overload it. However I would try to find the part number for the 110 amp alternator by calling another Nissan Dealership. Once you get the right part number go back to the dealership that installed the wrong alternator and get them on there error.

I dropped my car off @ the dealership today...still waiting for them to finish.
btw, they asked if they had permission to change the fan belts (or was it drive belts?) if they're cracked. They said they had a special for $99 for the belts. I declined cuz I think my belts are in good condition. any thoughts?

Good call, it costs like 15 bucks for the belts from the parts department. The recomendation is to change the belts every 60K miles. I was lucky I had changed the belts before I got the alternator recall, the belts were squealing a little bit and they adjusted them for free after they replaced the alternator.

Yes, got mine replaced too. I actually heard about the recall here on the forum and went to the dealer. Talked to the service gal and she didn't know about it. Had to look it up Well, got it done and no problems. Funny but a month or so AFTER I had the work done I got a letter from Nissan regarding the recall. Do the dealers really talk to Nissan or/and vice versa???? BTW, my Max is a 97 SE w/ 5spd leather the works but no cold wx pack . The alternator part number is the same as you've stated 2310M-0L706R. No problems after install and I too note that the engine seems to run a bit quieter.
Cheers

Maybe I'm a bit late, but thats kind of expensive for replacing the belts when you already have everthing apart. If that was he only thing being done that might be a resonable price because replacing the belts is a PITA - like 1 hour labor plus the cost of the belts. The OEM belts are a bit pricy. But if they already have everything apart it should only take an exta couple of minutes to throw new belts on.

And my dealer didn't know about the recall until I told them about it either.

Nissan will reimburse you if you had it done by a shop or yourself...just save the receipt and contact the warranty number.

If you have a y-pipe, would the dealer do something about it? Would they care?

The only way you can tell if you got a new alternator is to see how dirty your old one is and compare to the new one. You won't be able to tell by seeing if your lights are briter or anything like that espically if yours is working fine when you take it in. Just feel lucky you won't have to replace that one for a long time compared to having to pay for a new one when your current one finally dies.

So who that replaced their alternator before the recall and applied for reimbursement have gotten their money back? It's been a couple of months now for me. The guy called about a week ago telling me that it should get here in a short while. I hope this reimbursement doesn't go the way of the the stickers I ordered once upon a time.

My car started to act funny
first the radar detector went nuts
then the radio cut in and out
then the motor stuttered
then the whole car went dead right at an intersection.
I pulled over as much as possible, but it wasn't a good feeling.
So I had the car towed to my dealership
and they said it was the altenator
they replaced it no charge - and submitted my tow charge to the mother company and it was paid!
The next day I got the recall notice in the mail.
Thanks
now you tell me...

What a great story, well, excluding the dying in the intersection part. It's kind of a bad thing that the alternator can stop the car from running. I have been told that the fuel injection is powered by 'lectricity from the alternator. Could Nissan not have found another way to run the fuel injector, like of some kind of belt drive or something from the engine itself? It's kind of risky to have something as crucial as the fuel run off something that can fail. Or was Nissan just so confident in their alternators that they figured it would be fine? Are most fuel injectors electronic?

Well, my check finally came yesterday! They gave me the money for labor and installation of the one I got from Nissan and the one that I bought from another place. The one I bought and put on myself went out after only a month and a half. Then I took it back and got another one from the same people. He gave me a little trouble getting a new warranty, too. I was like, "Give me a whole new year from this date because if this happens again I want another one." So guess what happens only a month later...You guesses it. It failed too. My stereo started turning off and on. Well, first my amp and subs. I'd been having problems out of the amp so I wasn't sure that cutting out wasn't the amp itself but then the receiver cut out and I looked at the clock and I was like, man, this is all too familiar. So before the battery was killed all the way and the car would not run at all, I make it to my driveway. I'm so friggin disgusted (and tired of changing alternators, which is the first major repair I've ever done on any car...heck, I've never even changed oil!) that I just take it to Nissan that Monday (it failed on a Saturday the second time).

Incidentally, Nissan replaced the alternator on July 22. Had the recall been out then? I actually read about here on the org first, and then I got something in the mail a couple of weeks later. Should Nissan have not charged me? I bet those jerks knew all about it and just took my money. I hope I'm wrong.

But all is well now. Got my money back for everything, got some experience, and I got closer to my car. Now maybe I can afford to buy some tires.

One other thing while you're reading this: I thought SE 4th gens got the 110 alternator for the fog lights or something. I hope I have a 110er with the amp and subs in my car for the extra current just to be on the safe side.
