I see many posts here about Maxima's vs. Camry's, Accord, Integra's etc. but not so many about the supreme handling characteristics of this car. And forget about the luxury element. Even a tuned Max wins out against most.
True - more power is better, but the stock powertrain is really great out of the box.
When I race somebody straightline -sometmies I win sometimes I lose.(sloppy shifting mostly)
But when the road twists, it's easy to lose em.
The smaller cars are somewhat more difficult.
But this car sticks like crazy for its size and has great feedback.
Just my 2cents.

Another one bites the dust

You are definetly right. I raced some Mazda MX- something, it was a newer one,I couldn't make it out, last night on a back road. We were going 50-65 the whole time and i kept right on his *** the whole way. I could tell he was trying, it was a windy road but i kept up with him and he tried losing losing me a few times on straightaways, haha, nothing.

Agreed!

In my opinion it's better to outdrive them than just outshift them in a straightaway.

You're right. I won my class in autocross this season in a bone-stock GLE. Drove some of the sports car drivers nuts 'cause they couldn't beat me. I haven't had so much fun for a long time. Took a lot of razzing about the "family sedan", but people couldn't believe how well the car handled.

horsepower is over-rated! Too many people are worried about how much power XXX car can make, but they rarely give a hoot how it handles. Personally, I'd rather have a slow car that handles like a dream (oh wait.. I do.. my Miata is just like that).

By spring, the Miata will be doing 1.0+ Gs on the skidpad and 75+ mph through the slalom.. 75% of my race suspension is on order now, the rest will be done when the northern winter thaws out. Solo II Regionals.. here I come!

With my lower stance, wider tires, GReddy exhaust, & shaved emblems, sometimes I get tailgated *very closely* by stock Maximas. I don't like to race on the straights, most of the time, because that can end up being more of a "whose more crazy" contest than a "who's faster" contest. Besides, it's much more fun to lose a blatant tailgater in the twisties. On more than one occasion, I've seen an "offender" spin out behind me in frustration. It's amazing how much better a modded Maxima handles than a bone stocker...
