new brakes solved 1 problem...created another

If you'll take a look in my "signature" you'll notice I have VGX brake pads. I installed them myself. Here are the problems: 1. A smell emanating from the brake pads smells like burnt marshmellows. 2. The right front brake pad squeaks (didn't before) 3. The brakes "click" when I am braking. Anyone have any solutions to any problems, your help is appreciated.

That burning smell is probably your brakes burning up... this is going to sound dumb, but go back through and make sure that you didn't put the (back side of your rotor that is burning up) pad on backwards. The clicking noise can be a loose bolt that attaches the caliper to the anti torque thingy(looks like a big handle in the front of your brake). It can also because you forgot to re apply your seperating springs on your front brakes. Maybe you didn't put the E brake counter spring on right... Re tighten your lug nuts... I can't think straight, but thats at least a good hour of things to check. Good luck.

Did you give them time to break in or did you romp on them right after you installed them? If you romped on them, you've burnt them.

2. The right front brake pad squeaks (didn't before)
Did you reuse the shims? Were the shims in good shape? If not, you should have baught new ones. A squirt of anti squeal between the shim and pad is a good idea as well.

Did you remove the pins the caliper floats on and regrease them correctly?
Did you put the anti rattle hardware back in place?
Did you tighten the bolts to the correct torque?

The brake system on our cars is not that complicated, but everything needs to be in place and in good shape, especially the shims on the back of the pads. If the shims were showing signs of weare, you should replace them. I sprayed Disc Brake Quite which is a glue like anti squeal on the back of the pads before I put the shims on them. This holds everything very tightly together and I have silent brakes.

Nissan no longer uses the separating springs. My dealer told me they were of no use.

Thats great. When I lost mine for a day, I could feel my brakes dragging on the rotor. I guess it was just because they were new rotors. Thanks for the info.
