Whats the difference between '99 and '96 engines??

I looked at my friends 5spd 99 maxima. He had that vacum actuator that looks like it moves a variable lower intake manifold. It looks the same as the 3rd generation SOHC engine with the variable short and long runner. Its on the right side of the engine in the middle. I look at my '96 Maxima Automatic and it doesnt have that piece. It is attached to a lever on the lower manifold..Im almost positive it is for some variable intake runner. So how come the '99 doesnt make more HP then the '96?? Thanks

Your friends 99 is a california spec car. The actuator your looking at is for the Swish valves. They only work when the car is cold to help reduce emissions. I have the same thing on my 99, my car is a cali spec car.

the nice thing about 99 cali spec maximas is you can cannibalize the swirl valve actuator and use it to activate an MEVI easily. the only variable intake runners on 4th gen VQ30s were in the middle east.

btw emeraldgxe... 205 vs 200ftlb... the difference is 5ft-lb

Noo...I believe the NEW accords have 212 lbs/ft. and 240 HP (coupe) if I'm not mistaken. The current ones you see on the street everywhere I think we have 10 lbs/ft more, but I don't think the new ones.
