I asked my mechanic the same question. He told me that on engines with higher mileage, going from regular oil to synthetic can be dangerous. This is because if there are any gaps or areas when oil is leaking, the synthetic will go into that pocket. He advised me to go with a durablend. Not sure who is right, just some food for thought...........

Same here. Thicker oil is used because of engine wear and all clearances, bearings, rings etc, get larger for oil to seep through

If you're saying you have 70K miles and if you don't burn any, leak any or have other mechanical issues then you can use synth.
I switched to Mobil 1 at around 60k. I'm at 70K and I do not use any between changes.

I talked to my mechanic and he said that synthetic oil isn't supposed to leak. He said that he uses it on his old dodge truck with like 250k miles. also, mobil one makes a synthetic oil specifically for higher mileage engines.

I switched to Mobil 1 at 62k, if anything I noticed a little improvement in the overall performance of the car. Good oil, I dont know if they make a better one then Mobil 1. If they do post it up. I do know about Royal purple and Redline but thats a bit too expensive for an oil change!!
