Me vs. Spec-V at the track
Me vs. Spec-V at the track
Well, I finally made it out to the track for the first time. Unfortunately, this track is so new, they don't have slips/xmas tree/etc setup...just a flagger. I'm not sure if it was measured to be a full quarter-mile or not, and forgot to look down at my speedo at the end of the run, but I was fairly close to the end of 3rd, so probably.
I only managed to get one race out because I spent most of the time trying to borrow a helmet
, but I got the race I wanted....me (stock) vs. a spec V (AEM intake - I'm guessing CAI but I forgot to ask). The guy had 13k miles on it. My launch was a tad too aggressive - I chirped fine and flew forward but then the tires started to spin shortly thereafter and kept going until about 4,500rpm in first. I had about a half car on him when I shifted into second, and at that point, he pulled very slightly, but then as I got to the top and shifted into third, I pulled from that point on out. I ended up taking him by a little more than a car.
I guess he had a bad launch, and still after 13k has yet to figure out how to launch that thing right. Ouch - I wonder how much wheelhop that cars seen
I'd still like to see one of those with 15s on the strip to see if that'd help. With a good launch/experienced driver, it woulda probably been close with me pulling away at the end a tad. Word has it that they're pretty hard to launch right tho (esp when you couple that with the short 1st gear...lengthened for 03 a bit), so that might mean very variable results out of the Spec-V.
I can't believe there wasn't another maxima the whole time I was there.
