M A X I M A painted black **PICS**

What do you all think?

I could not find dark blue to match my color paint, so I chose black - I used 9 thin coats from different angles of a glossy black metal sprayon paint - waiting about 5 minutes between coats.

*I know i need red/clear tails, dont even mention it - and I plan on doing the outside park of the keylock black too....

I like it! I think it looks really cool... and I think the black looks better than if you had painted them the blue color. It gives just enough contrast. I might do that instead of shaving it off... (then again it might not look right on my black Max - black on black?)

Did you take them off and then put them back on?

Anyways it looks really cool. Good job.

looks pretty good, but for a dark color like yours, shaved with the hamburger looks better, IMO

Looks pretty good. Yeah, you should paint the key hole too. I had mine painted and many people think the rear was totally shaved. Unless you're up close, you can't tell the key hole was painted.

Seems ok to me... just as long as I don't see any Altezzas, then that's fine with me! heheh. But yea, not sure if it would look good on a white car like mine, cuz the black emblems would definitely stand out. Gold emblems on a white car just seems odd to me, so mayb a graphite greyish color might look cool. Who knows? Maybe I should do some photoshopping to see what it may look like...

Don't paint it blue, whenever people paint it close to the color of their car it looks like they were in an accident and went to the laziest body shop on earth. Stick with the black.

try and find a body color.. ?

Mine used to be gold and i HATED that.. i have a new silver emblem up front, and removed my gold pin stripe now - so this was the last thing left to do, and i wanted blue very badly. I had a body shop do mine blue when they repainted my hood, but it would not stick (they tried on 1 letter) so they didnt do it... I wish I could get body color so it would just blend in unless you were looking at it, but black actually turned out just fine in my opinion... see if you can find something the same color as your car, maybe it would be easier to match then mine -

Looks good. I actually was thinking of painting mine as well, but couldn't decide to either do that or put the '99 SE-L MAXIMA (smoked) badge on. Either way if I did paint it, on my black car I was thinking of a black chrome or anything close to the SE-L badge, so basically I'll just get the badge. Liek the guy above said, leave it black, body color would look like your trunk lid was repainted at a body shop.

Looks real nice Harold! I would love to go black on my Ruby Pearl Max, I think it would look very slick. Love those '95-'96 letters.

Give me time, but I swear, the '99 SE-L MAXIMA badge looks really good on the superblack Maxs.

I have the burger shaved on my 97 Pearl White, but think "MAXIMA" should
stay on...but, like you said, who knows!

I think it looks good, better than the chrome. Someone else said it has just the right contrast, and I agree. Blue would have looked like a lazy bodyshop had done it (again, like had been previously posted). I hadn't thought of doing mine until now.
Maximaxgtr, if you do some photoshopping, post a pic or email me one as my '97 is Arctic Pearl White also. I think a very light gray (or even like a brushed aluminum or whatever color '97 SE rims are) would look pretty good. For my SE's center caps, I used Plasti-Kote Car Color "CC-9079", and it is almost a perfect match to the rims (Even up close, most people can't tell they've been painted, that's how close. I know different, so I can "see" the difference). I'll attempt a photoshop of mine tonight, but I'm not too good with the program as I just got it.

I remember I posted a thread about blacking out the lettering. You've answered them! thanks!

It looks really great.

For the person who has the white max...I think it would look good too. Just think about a white 5th Gen SE.

Comment, question, and STUPID question

I think that gunmetal would look good. THere is a "duplicolor" gunmetal or graphite available in a spray can fo rcheap. I redid the faded centercaps on my SE rims with it and it looked great. I used 5 coats. I am doing my "M A X I M A" lettering in the same color soon, but don't know how to get the letters back on there with the correct spacing and alignment. Anyone have any suggestions? I thought about using masking tape to align with the bottom of the letter before I take them off, but if I do that, I cannot use goo-gone or adhesive remover (followed by a nice wash job to the surface where they wil be re-mounted) to clean off the gook left on there when I remove the old lettering.

Any suggestions?

Also, what adhesive is best to replace the letters, and where can I get it?

Even when you wash and wax and goo-gone your trunk, there will still be marks from where they were... from faded paint around the letters, and tiny bits of marks that didnt come off with one wash, buff, wax, etc.. I just used those little outlines to get mine back on, nothing tough just took some playing with.. I used 3M doublesided tape to mount them back on there...

best of luck

When I had my 99 Accord, I bought the black chrome emblems and put them on. The car was white and looked AWESOME! I think I may try the black chrome or gunmetal spray on my infiniti emblems!
