transmission dipstick

I have a 5spd 97 maxima SE......this may sound stupid, but, I am trying to find the dipstick for my tranny, or whatever. Want to give the fluid level a check. Can anyone tell me where I could find it, or do I need to bring it to a shop? Thanks for any help you can give.

There isn't one. There is a plug you need to remove on level ground to check for fluid level. Do a search, and you'll find instructions. If you don't find it on the org for whatever reason, because it is, search for Maxima dedicated sites like Cheston's with instructions and pics. Even better, go buy a Haynes/Chiltons, or an FSM.

Yah there's no dipstick for tranny.
When I changed my tranny, I had to overfill it to know if the tranny oil already full.
BTW I'm 5 speed to.

Just one more question for you......should I have my tranny flushed, and have tranny oil changed? What do you recommend? Not sure what the maintenance period is for that. Thanks for any help you can give, I really do appreciate it.

Re: Re: Re: transmission dipstick

It's up to you. But I got my Maxima with about 110K and I figured out that I better change the transmission oil because it's already more than 100K. I changed it using Redline and afterthat I don't have to worry about it anymore because Redline claims that the oil should last until the car need to be replaced...
It cost me about $55 including shipping. If want to change the oil, the car need about 4.5 quarts...do the search for type, good place to order the oil and how to with a step by step pictures. I believe it was Redline MT-90. but make sure by doing the search.
My car feels a bit smoother after using the redline whenever I shift gears.
Good luck.

Re: Re: Re: transmission dipstick

Thanks for the tip. What is the website that I can order this from? I have 122K on my car, so, figured it may be time to do this. Also, is there any quick bolt-ons you recommend for performance, etc. I have a K&N filter, but other than that, totally stock. Any recommendation you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
