average life of a 4th Gen clutch?
My car just turned 100k not to long ago and the clutch has never been changed. Should I be planning on some clutch work in the near future or should I just not worry and let go til it goes? What is the average life of a 4th Gen Max clutch? I don't abuse it racing or anything like that.

Clutch life has some variance to it, of course. It's hard to say. I say let it go until it shows signs of slipping/wear.
What's odd on mine is it seems fine, except when its either real hot outside, or I've been city driving for over 25-30 min or so. Then it starts vibrating sensitively around the release point, and the car seems more prone to short bursts of hesitation/stumbles around the low-to-mid range. I don't know if this has to do with our lines or what. There was a post this week on the GD forum called something like "Does anyone else hate the sloppyness in our 5-speeds?" where people observed symptoms after some time in city driving ,etc.
So I'm confused as to if I need to be worrying about my clutch myself (at 95k). Do you notice anything of the sort?

your clutch is on its stretching limits no matter how soft you drive the car at 100k miles i would recommend replacing the clutch when you start to feel slippage. I mean if it still works fine more power to you! i am at 66k and i can't wait to change mine cause i really want an ACT and next summer's modifications will be torture on the stock clutch

I keep thinking my cluth is going to go soon, but it keeps plugging along. I have had a wierd feeling something fairly major is about to go wrong with my car(90K). Every little noise I hear becomes a big problem in my head. When actually the car is running great.
I guess I am used to my American made cars which have fallen apart right at 100K.

I'm at 108K now and still have the stock clutch... I have been amazed at how well mine has held up since I race so much. I would not worry too much about it just dropping dead on you. However if you do feel it starting to go then it won't hurt to start saving for another clutch.

Re: average life of a 4th Gen clutch?
I replaced my clutch at 70K miles due to having to replace the transmission anyway due to a bad differential bearing. The clutch had a *lot* of material left. I estimate it would have made it through 125K miles or more. I drive aggressively, too, although I rarely abused the clutch (no intentional burnout and other stupid stuff). The 4th gen clutch, although weak, does last quite long.

I have 113K and orig clutch and brake pads too.
Get going in 5th gear between 2-3000 rpm and floor it. If engine speed (rpms) build faster than the car accelerates its slipping. You'll hear the engine rev and you don;t accelerate. Kind of like pornography-you'll know it when you see it.
How do you know if its slipping?
